Save the children

The US bombed 8 different countries last year and their biggest allies are running an apartheid state in Gaza and creating famine in Yemen. Hopefully it improves quicker.

As late as the 1980s, people were legitimately concerned of nuclear annihilation by the Soviet Union. In the 1970s, Americans were being drafted to fight in Vietnam; before that, there was the Korean War. Everything in the 1940s and earlier was an absolute sh*tstorm. Can you imagine Angela Merkel invading the whole of Europe today? It’s ludicrous, but it wasn’t two generations ago.

Despite headline news that makes you feel bad, the world has gotten better. There are certainly global risks and many people are undoubtedly suffering in the world, but overall, things have improved vastly.

By the way, how are you a Marxist in 2018? Even communist countries nowadays are more capitalist than not.

I simply don’t have the same confidence in capitalism going forward as the “well yeah some things are bad but they could be worse” crowd seems to. The negative externalities seem too great to ignore, in my opinion. Rampant inequality, a full corporate takeover of our current “democracy”, the inexorable destruction of the environment, the military-industrial complex, and the prison-industrial complex being some prominent examples.

That walk down memory lane you just provided is a great example of capitalist revisionist history that drove me towards socialism. Why were we concerned about nuclear annihilation? Why were we in Vietnam? Were the American soldiers being drafted really the worst part of that war? Why were we in Korea? Why is current North Korea acting the way they do? These are all questions that are never acknowledged or addressed by the corporate media, and in turn, never get taught to the citizens of this nominally free and open country.

Hold on, man… :+1:–doesn’t matter what Marxism has never succeeded in any country worldwide in the history.

Except those that actually lived under a Marxist regime.
