I think if a certification on prostitution if comes into the market…it will be the hardest certification in the world…
The certifications will perhaps include following subjects:
1)Biology:What are various kinds of STDs??How can they be prevented??What are medicines available to cure them??
2)Marketing:How to market your services to the target consumers?,Customer segmentation,7P’s,swot anaysis, porter 5 forces,BCG matrix,Maslow’s law ,Customer relationship management…etc will be included in the certification.
3)Psychology:Various behavorial theories and personality theories will be included like johari windows,7 hats,PAC structure,ERG Herzberg etc…
4)Finance:How to form a company private/public??How to raise funds??How to approach Venture capitalists??How to value your business??How to go public via IPO???How to do horizontal /conglomerate/vertical integration???How can the potfolio of prostitutes be managed??
5)Economics:Basically every thing that we have learned in Economics.More over prostitution industy is free from business cycles.
6)Stats:Cluster analysis,correlation/regression,conjoint anaysis,probablities etc.
7)Laws related to industry.
8)Last but not the least,Ethics.
I think any one doing such certification will be considered highly intellectual.
On the con side, it will drive up labor costs, since the increase in the number of sex workers will constrict the labor supply for other employment.
Most likely a dominant prostitution group would try to create barriers to entry via regulatory processes, similar to the bar association and the AMA. Thus, you would still have illegal prostitution going on by those who were unlicensed and charging below-oligopoly market rates.
In Roman times. The emperor got a good chunk of the client’s revenue from prostitutes (but it was legal - women were not supposed to wear togas, except for prostitutes. A woman in a toga was the legal sign that she was a prostitute. “respectable” women wore stolae. so consider that next time one goes to a toga party)
If you are going to legalize prostitution, the next sticky questions what is the minimum legal age to be a prostitute, and can younger people do it with their parents’ permission.
I generally think legalized prostitution isn’t a bad idea. Nightly rates would come down, it would be easier to prosecute genuine abuse, prostitutes would be less demeaned, health checks would be more regularized, etc…
I thought about mentioning it, but that post seemed to be getting long already.
In Roman times, male prostitutes earned about 1/4 what a female prostitute earned. Women would pay quite a bit, however, to spend a night with a well known gladiator. I bet former trader has something to say about how that fits into his model of male-female relations.
In the tango world, there are guys who are paid by the hour to dance with women. There are primarily two categories of women: beginners, who tug and pull the guys off balance as they learn and will often leave one’s back hurting. The other tend to be old women, many of whom dance well, but just don’t want to have to spend their time waiting around for some guy to ask. They tend not to be as pretty as the young women, but they do tend to be substantially more attractive than the rest of their age cohort.
I suppose, there might be other stuff going on too, at least with some of them, but I get the sense that most of the women just like to have someone hug them for an hour while listening to music. Nothing wrong with that, as long as they don’t smell bad. Might be nice to have a rich sugar-momma. Perhaps I should consider it.
What’s wrong with that? It shouldn’t have been taboo to begin with. Let’s think of things that were/are taboo: interacial interaction (school, marriage, etc), tattoos, gay relationships, showing any skin whatsoever, rock and roll, etc.
I don’t want my daughter to come up to me and say “Dad i want to be a prostitute.”
Till now we have seen moslty girls from poor families taking up prostitution to feed themselves.
If prostitution becomes legalized then over time it may become a socially acceptable profession like nurses, doctors…etc.
Young talented girls who could have contributed greatly to the society by becoming teachers, doctors etc…may want to take up “prostitution” instead (in a legalized environment) since prostitution generally offers higher monetary benefit.
This is figuratively washing your hands of parenting. You still have the right to instill what values you believe are important in your child, but you don’t have the right to limit others because you refuse to parent. Your laziness is what causes prostitutes to be pushed out of mainstream society and into dangerous situations. I am not one to judge how another person makes their money if it doesn’t effect me or hurt people. It shouldn’t matter if they’re from poor families. That’s still someone’s mother or daughter and they deserve to be accepted as a working member of society if they treat it as a job.
Also, if prostitution were legal and more people became prostitutes the law of supply and demand would lower the price (unless you’re a bombshell).
