I just registered for the June 2013 level 1 exams, and I would really like to know if someone used the Shweser Video Class Package and was it really useful.I want to decide whether to buy the Kaplan Shweser Essential Study Package or the one with the Shweser Video Classes.
I like the video package, but I doubt that it’s essential to succesful exam prep. I usually watch a video in the early morning with my first cup of coffee and occasionally in the evening when I’m too exhausted for anything but a video. When my mind is at its sharpest, I work through practice problems.
Andrew Holmes is fantastic, but he does not teach all of the videos.
Honestly, it not worth the extra $400 bucks. It helped me extra, very minimally. I really only watched the video for sections I had already knew a lot about and just wanted to see how the CFA covers it and wanted to get through it quick. There were VERY FEW times that the videos were able to explain a concept better than the CFA books or the Schweser Notes themselves. For this reason, I believe they are not worth the money. If money is not an issue, then yes, get them.
Andrew Holmes’ videos are great. He makes it interesting and does a good job of teaching. The others are ok.
The price tag on the videos is high though. I’m through half the videos and I have to say that they aren’t worth the extra cost. They are good to review things but not for actually learning. I mostly find myself watching them before bed passively.
If anyone from Schweser ever gets to reading this, I have one big suggestion: PLEASE for the LOVE OF GOODNESS get a better writing system. The pen/draw tool is pathetically terrible. It’s just horrendous and many times I find myself asking, why did they even bother picking up that pen. Can you get something that actually writes like a pen?
