Street Parking

Very wise! The day you stop worrying about this depreciating asset, you will be a happier man.

Wifey’s JX already took one for the team (her fault). We have a garage in the house, but it eventually has to happen.

with street parking you are guaranteed to get dings and scratches. That’s just how it is.

ultimately, nice cars are a waste of money. just get something safe and reliable.

Not necessarily disagreeing with you, but isn’t that pretty much true with everything? GTA V included?

This is why I’m happy I have a garage at home and work. When I was in NYC I was surprised how many nicer BMWs and MBs, like 5 and E levels, I saw with those bumper guard things and squeezed between other cars with maybe 3-4 inches on either side of them.

I think you’re worse off in a public garage than on the street (weather damage excluded). Nothing beats a nice garage at home.

The lessons one can learn from fight club never ceases to amaze me.

For those of you who dont know, i moved from nyc to boston.

A nice big car in a big metropolis (NYC, London etc.) is bound to get scratched, bumped and dented.

Esp. in this tiny island of a country where most garages and parking spots are meant for Mini Cooper size cars. One of the many things I miss about the US is the size of the parking spots.

Seriously contemplating getting the new Range Rover upon my second child’s arrival but not too sure about being able to park it comfortably anywhere in London.

That was one of the surprises when I first moved to Texas was that I could fit a Chevy Tahoe sized SUV into a compact car marked parking space at the shopping center. I’d like to have a Range Rover one day. Most people that I’ve known who have owned them loved them.

Range Rovers are nice, but I wouldn’t own one without a warranty. Parts and service are pricey.

^ They need to start outsourcing more than just ownership to India so they can bring those costs down.

I really don’t understand peoples obsession with Range Rovers…I don’t actually think they’re that great.

I disagree, i like nice cars i think its one of those things like define your style and who you are as a person.

Like your house, you can live in a box and have no furniture, no design, and you will still live. but a nice place shows that you care, you enjoy your lifestyle and you have a good sense of style.

I like Range Rovers and Land Rovers, they are nice!

depends how wide and hpw busy the street is.

I parked on the street in downtown montreal for 3 years and the car was trashed at the end, not just by the weather but by all the little dings, people hitting it when they pull into the next parking space and then back into you etc

It was an old Ford Escort and the cost of parking in a lot would have exceeded the value of the car.

Had to move the car about 4 times a week as well (parking was forbidden on one side of the street on Mo and Thurs between 1 and 2pm and on Tues and Fri on the other side)

They are very stylish, drive real nice, and are actually very capable off road. The air suspension (when working properly haha) has a really impressive range of height. They rank low in reliability but the car is complex by nature, so more stuff to break.

It definately feels different than driving say, a Mercedes GL.

I used to feel that way too. I had once defined myself through material goods or possessions like car/clothes/apartment. Now, I’m quite content living modestly, saving for the future, etc. and while I work very hard and do well for myself, you’ll still find me in old casual tshirts, wearing sneakers I’ve had for years, choosing to make a simple meal at home rather than dining out with expensive food/drink.

I strive hard at work to beat others, to prove I can.

I’d much rather drive a beater and live in a plain old box if it means I can afford to travel to Europe or Asia more every year. I simply don’t care what others think of my style… i spend money soley to enjoy life and that’s the main reason I work as hard as I do to make money.

Edit: unrelated, but this post got my 666 AF points!

You devil!

I mean, i guess i don’t do it for the sake of other people’s impression i just do it because i like to live comfortably when i can.

Obviously everything has a priority list. i am not going to starve myself and buy shoes, and i am not going to live on the street but buy a nice car…

What i am trying to say is, some people, even with a lot of money, they drive a honda civic, clearly they have sufficient money to go to europe asia every month but they still choose to drive a 20 year old car, that kind of thing.

Wow, nana, how do you do it? How do you keep producing this meaningless, empty drivel?

It’s not your fault. I bet you are cute. Most cute girls don’t filter anything that comes to their pretty little heads because all their life guys (like me) have given them the idea that eeeeverything they have to say is super witty/important/fascinating/clever.

Just know, here in the forum nobody can see you so please put some effort into your “contributions”.
