ummm so where do i sign up for Head Risk Guy? +1
That means a Business Analyst with around 10+ years IT experience can do wonders with a CFA?
What about Website Design or encryption technology for Asset Managers? Willy
Thats like saying that if you are a janitor (custodial services specialist) and shred papers at a hedge fund that you are in the finance industry…

Don’t hate on the Managing Director of Custodial Services.

Let me get this straight - It would be awesome to know that you are w@cking off with CFAs? That’s a strange fetish… itstoohot Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > WillyR Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > What about Website Design or encryption > technology > > for Asset Managers? > > > > Willy > > what about designing a p0rn website only > Charterholders can login, that’d be awsum
I have an IT background (programming) and an MBA in Corporate Finance - the MBA did help me get a Risk Management position in the credit card industry and my IT background (even though I was trying to run away from IT because of the rat race) helped me a great deal in writing analytical programs very quickly and compete at a higher level. You have to look at your IT background as an enabler for doing things better and use it more effectively than your peers at the new jobs who may not be that tech savvy. With a CFA and IT, as someone has suggested, you could look at a career in analyzing IT firms at an investment bank. Or, you could be working for a hedge fund and research companies that would fit the returns the hedge fund is driving towards. There are muliple possibilities - I would treat it as a positive. I am currently in an internal audit position for a large financial services company and my programming background lets me conduct audits more efficiently - of course, I don’t have to program anymore but having a feel for data and how to mine it is something I ask my analysts to do. It is also possible that you could join any industry but still use your programming skills to your advantage initially. Hope this helps.
