The 2016 POTUS Debate Thread

^pa been saying this all year

Trump has good points but isn’t on message. You need to be a career politician to do that.

Well bottom line, the methodical questioning about his rapes/molestations have begun. He bragged on tape “I molest women”. They strategically questioned “have you actually committed this crime?”. He was forced unwilling to commit “no, I’ve never done that”. Now the women he molested will start coming forward.

This one went well for Trump, he addressed the tapes well, did good overall.

Should have dropped the mic after that.

I think as they study the tape they’ll see Hillary gave us nothing new…yet Trumper gave us a whole new list of great material!! laugh

He’s a dictator who will jail his opponents after he gets power, he is anti-Muslim and wants to treat them differently from other Americans, he tried to dodge answering if he raped so we know he did, women will notice his stalking threatening vibe standing behind Hillary, he admitted he used the $1B loss to not pay taxes, etc.

Opened new cuts all over his body, guy is gonna bleed out.

My unbias score card:

Trump - 2

Crooked Hillary - 0

You haven’t seen the polls i guess.

I see the polls, the CNN one. Who is votIng on these? I’ve been looking on all the sites for polls to vote on but they must be buried or I must be too tired or drunk to find them.

^Seriously? HRC is utterly running away with this election.

The republicans need to figure out how to distance themselves asap. There is no probability of this not getting worse for them, it’s what Trump does, screw people who trust him. He lost the election, now damage control, saying “we never backed that guy, not deep down in our hearts, or whatever”.

Prediction: Trump wins debate.

Verdict: Probably a tie, maybe slight edge to HRC. Trump didn’t implode in a dumpster fire, but the end result is the same, HRC will be POTUS.

They would need to assign him a guide in the White House, to make certain he didn’t grope the secretary in the pu$$y. The damage is gonna keep happening, faster than they can control it, out of control already. He managed to hold it together for 90min (kinda, he still said insane things), but that’s not good enough, wouldn’t be surprised if more disown him this week.

Just as CNN did in their post-debate analysis, that’s really blowing out of proportion what he actually said. For those who didn’t watch the debate, what Trump said, and I paraphrase, is that if he’s elected he’ll instruct his AG to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Hillary’s use of a private server and deleting 30 some thousand emails after receiving a subpoena from congress requesting her emails. As he believes what she did was criminal, he believes that the investigation will result in her going to jail. That’s not quite the same as jailing his opponents after he gets power.

Well, Trump did better in debate 2 but I don’t think it’s going to matter that much. He needed to do bigly or big league better. Hillary mostly stayed on top, but didn’t seem to seal the deal the way she needed to.

Trump said that Khans’ son wouldn’t have died in Iraq because if it had been him instead of Obama, we wouldn’t have been in Iraq in the first place. Then he said that Obama’s leaving Iraq too soon was what created the power vacuum that gave rise to ISIS. So that’s his Iraq policy, I guess.

Apparently, Russia is new at nuclear. Tom Lehrer would seem to disagree.

Foreign policy brought to you by Fox News. Along with Obamabenghazi.

I actually thought Trump had a successful debate, speaking on a relative basis. Relative to 24 hours prior when it seemed like his campaign was going to collapse, he was able to refocus the rhetoric on the issues and his talking points (right or wrong) on why people should support him over HRC. I thought he did well to highlight those sound bytes several times forcefully during the debate. The problem is, he did nothing to expand his base which at this point seems to be too small to defeat HRC, especially with any incremental defections resulting from the events of the past few days.

Here’s what he actually said:

“First of all, Captain Khan is an American hero and if I were president at that time he would be alive today because, unlike her who voted for the war without knowing what she was doing, I would not have had our people in Iraq. Iraq was a disaster. So he would have been alive today.”

Note there is no mention of President Obama, only Hillary’s vote to invade Iraq. I think even Trump knows Bush was in office when we went into Iraq.

The reference to Obama was here:

“Her and Obama whether you like it or not, the way they got out of Iraq, the vacuum they left, that’s why ISIS formed in the first place. They started from the little area and now they are in 32 different nations, Hillary. Congratulations. Great job.” So, his position on Iraq is that we shouldn’t have been there in the first place (note, I don’t believe his statements that that was his position at the time) and once we were there we did a poor job exiting. I don’t think there are a lot of people who would disagree with that position. Trump does enough stupid things to undermine himself, you don’t need to make things up to make him look bad.

^But that whole statement is based on the fact that, unlike HRC, Trump wouldn’t have voted for the Iraq War. It is unequivocal that he supported the war initially, so all that verbiage is just rubbish.

Ok, maybe I misremembered it, because I remember thinking “surely he knows that it was Bush that went into Iraq and not Obama.” Perhaps the previous sentence was an Obama dig and he didn’t shift the subject clearly. Or maybe he was so busy lumping Hillary and Obama together that he was not separating Hillary’s separate actions from Obama’s clearly.

Which is why I said this:

"(note, I don’t believe his statements that that was his position at the time) "

There’s a difference between calling him out on a BS position and misstating what his position is. As a man of integrity, bchad owned up to misremembering the actual statements.
