The Soccer Thread

Too True, If we could somehow find a way to seperate the hooligans/murderers and dregs of society from the ‘ultras’ that would be great.

Britain has done a great job of it so far, Love the green brigade. Whats the deal behind the rivalry of Celtic and Rangers? I know it’s somewhat religious but beyond that?

I’m up for the pool thing too, someones going to have to explain how it’s done though.

Deeplying Midfielder =/= Centre Back. That’s all I said.

United Close to Pronouncing Van Gaal

Yes Pumpkin, we know. It’s kind of obvious. Van Gaal is done and confirmed. The guy is an absolute nutter, he’ll take the head of a few sky reporters that’s for sure.

Easily one of the best stadiums and set of fans in the world

Dortmund fans on Mario leaving :" The Pursuit of money shows you have no heart, fk off Gotze"

The Rangers Celtic thing is just religious bullshit. sectarianism is pretty ingrained in the west coast of scotland unfortunately.

at old firm games the celtic fans wave irish flags and the rangers fans wave union jacks, not a scotland flag to be seen. says a lot

has anyone been following the yaya toure saga? its a new low for bratty footballers, i can’t see him coming out of it with any credibility left.

Why do the celt fans wave irish flags?

Yea Yaya is one strange dude.

Landon left off the US squad.

Celtic are an irish catholic club and Rangers are a protestant club. Most cities in scotland have 1 traditionally catholic club (eg Hibernian, Dundee Utd) and 1 traditionally protestant club (Hearts, Dundee). The difference being that on the east coast people stopped caring about that shit years ago and are more likely to support a club based on who their dad supports or which part of the city they grew up in.

sectarianism is the only reason rangers and celtic used to get 50,000/60,000 fans turning up everyweek. to put that in context, anfield is 45,000 capacity, stamford bridge 41,000 and emirates is 60,000.

now rangers are in the lower leagues, both clubs get a fraction of their old gates.

looking forward to the CL final tomorrow, I’m predicting la decima for Real.

Suarez might be out of world cup, big miss. I might lob a tenner on him scoring a hatrick against england.

I’m going with Atletico Madrid, they’re going to be badly missing Xabi Alonso.

Nice, I remember the celt fans holding a massive ass banner saying “Our songs are not sectarian, our songs are not illegal”. Never knew what that meant, good to have a bit of context to that.

As for tomo, heart says Atletico head says Real.

I’m indifferent quite honestly. My head says real but I just hope its a great game.

In other news, final US roster released. No Landon Donovan and they included young’ns like Julian Green. Thoughts?

^

I’m the opposite, i’m completely invested in Atletico. Saw this ad, It was when Atletico had just came back from relegation not too long ago. The player German Burgos climbs out of the sewers to signal Atletico’s comeback from the lower leagues.

Ya estamos aqui- We are here. What a journey it would have been for them. I want the fairytale ending against the neverending circus of real madrid.

From someone who only watches the US squad at World Cups, so take it with a grain of salt.

I’d say no Donovan means 3 and out. I don’t think any team relied as much on a single guy in the last few World Cups, Ukraine and France included.

Holy shit

Bale has looked overawed by the occasion, I hope he doesn’t step up to take a penalty

I can see ronaldo missing his penalty.

Simeone shouldn’t have started Diego…
