A true combat leader wouldn’t do that. But combat leaders aren’t making these decisions. Politicians are. And the combat leaders have to live (or die) with the political consequences.
See my posts on climate. Happy to discuss the facts. Starting with satelitte data and historical CO2 concentrations. Obama actually told the world fish are swimming in the streets of Miami regularly at high tide. Only those promoting a hoax would make such an exaggeration or maybe complete morons.
…and that’s my point… the population of top killers may contain some women. Only those women with the physical abilty to keep up with the population of top male “killers” should be allowed in the program, but the women who have the abiltiy and will should not be turned down. end of story
EDIT: very few women will make this population by the way. I think it is more a matter of principle to honor _ superior ability _ over ANYTHING else. Who cares what sort of package the ability comes in.
Oh, that’s the reason Tebow plays in the NFL. Oh, wait… This reminds me of geo opining on aviation related topics. Fortunately, he’s stayed away from the subject recently.
This proves to me that you have a large amount of naivete or misunderstanding of how the military works. I can think of absolutely no situation that I ever personally encountered in the military where there weren’t special accommodations for women (such as sleeping, bathroom). And based on my personal experience in the military, I can’t imagine the military NOT making special accommodations.
Even in Marine boot camp at Parris Island, male drill instructors are not allowed to even talk to female recruits, because “they might unduly intimidate them”.
And this shows me that you lack a basic understanding of how men are “wired”. Women can’t escape sexism even in roles traditionally filled by women (administration and nursing), and you expect men in combat situations to “respect you and not make life difficult on you”?
I’m not saying it’s right or wrong, but…you really think that you wouldn’t be the victim of a whole lot of verbal, physical, and possibly even sexual abuse? You have got to be kidding me.
It’s also interesting that terms like fair and respect and equal keep coming up despite the fact that combat is known to encompass none of those things.
I’m also going to pick this bone, and I’ll only pick it once. Note, too, that I agree with just about everything BS has said.
But I wish BS would stop discussing combat and combat situations as if he personally assaulted Omaha beach. I spent five years in the Marine Corps and never once saw combat. And I’m very careful not to imply that I did, or that I know what it’s all about.
But I did take part in very many training exercises, and every single time, I hoped to God that I didn’t get any females on my team, because I knew they would wind up being a liability.
I guess fair enough. I don’t think I ever insinuated that I somehow had combat experience.
But I do spend ALOT of time readinig first hand accounts and fired my first rifle at the age of 5. I could strip an AR-15 by age 10. So I do understand firearms and it does actually make a hell of a lot of difference when I’m talking to people that completely ignore logistics. I’m not campaigning for a purple heart here, but when people talk about shooting in fast paced situations I am very familiar with the equipment and techniques. I have literally been firing AR varients for longer than some current SEALS have been alive.
I think respect among soldiers is a key to the functionality of the unit. As far as fair and equal… I am so NOT for those. In fact it is more likely unfair and unequal to select only those with superior ability… but of course that is absolutely how it must be. However, wouldn’t you agree that the bottom line is compat roles should go to those with superior ability. Why are you arguing about what package that ability comes in. If women really would suck that much at it, fine, they won’t find themselves in the top performers. too bad. To focus on what package the idea combat soldier would come in is just short sighted and a wase of time. Let perfomance speak for itself.
man that’s rich. of course you insinuated that because you accused us of not having combat experience, implying that your stance on this topic was the result of your combat experience. so you were talking to yourself when you were judging people for not having combat experience.
so you’ve shot a gun and taken one apart. congratulations. you’re now a leading commentator on combat tactics.
can i just state my IQ and win this conversation then. my slightly higher IQ probably means i’m smarter and right about everything.
Ash Carter ignored it and called it flawed because he is a political puppet. Did you notice that he did not propose another test? Then issues a sweeping change to the armed forces. This is not the way to lead.
Shooting paper targets = more authority on Marine gender politics. Gotcha. I completely bow down to your authority. Greenie is the only one with any authority here on this topic. The rest of us are only theoretically discussing something based on our logical perspectives with no real understanding or skin in the game. Don’t try to play yourself as an authority here because you shoot ARs at paper. I’ve been a hunter since age 8 and I’ve killed a bear that immediately threatened my life, it was a shoot to kill or be mauled situation. I don’t claim that this translates into an understanding of Marine operations. And neither does your AR shooting. I stand by my point. With good screening methods, there is no reason to reject women ipso facto if they meet the same screening standards as men. I acknowledge Greenie doesn’t trust women in combat, and this is something that would need to be address. Perhaps the lack of trust is because he women he saw in training were not to a sufficient standard.
The point I was trying to make is that when people with no experience shooting or with the equipment draw comparisons to olympic shooting they make mistakes that people with any experience would not make. Like understaning an AR10 weighs about 15 lbs once its been outfitted and kicks substantially while also factoring in 10 lbs of amo before you even get to your body armor and non-weaponry gear.
