Thoughts on this?- PhD in finance says he would pass all three levels without ever opening a book

L1 is definitely possible and a BOM can accomplish it.

My PhD buddy failed. Low band as well. Don’t want to say too much on the slight chance he peruses these forums.

He thought he did ok on exam day but obviously the lack of exam practice meant he wasn’t thinking the way CFAI wanted him to think.

Now I know why I didn’t get every question right on all levels. It wasn’t because I simply did not know the answer, it’s because I didn’t get the memo on CFAI thinking. No chance the distractors were just incorrect. They were correct if you thought “differently.” That makes me feel a little better.

So why wouldn’t he take the test then? 18 hours in 3 years in a small price to pay to have that CFA title, regardless whether you need it or not.

I call BS as while he may have the vast knowledge of CFA materials from his experience and work, there are some concepts he may have forgotten or never knew about. Not impossible, but highly unlikely.

^^ to ge fair, there would also be several thousand dollars in registration fees with theoretically zero payoff if he plans to he a professor forever

people taking it too literally lol, when the PHD professor said he’d pass without studying he probably meant he’d pass with minimal preparation which is doable since PHD material is much harder than CFA stuff. But then again I’d probably fail high school geometry right now if I didn’t prepare for a little while. Most people just like to exaggerate a little bit, me included
