Silicon Valley season finale… lame ending, not many laughs, and getting pretty repetitive. Wouldn’t be surprised if next season were the last.

Yeah, it didn’t feel like they accomplished much this season. TJ Miller isn’t coming back either. I’d say the odds are stacked against the show lasting more than 2 additional seasons.
The creator did say from the start that Richard would never become truly successful as that would ruin the point of the show. It also facilitates this cycle of: breakthrough -> possibility of major fortune -> something goes horribly wrong -> they get out of it but have to start from scratch. Hard to repeatedly pull off over the long-term.
It’s kind of the reverse of what happened to 90210 (the original, obviously). That show kicked ass up until the last 2-3 seasons. They took everyone’s money away from them and made them “normal” people struggling to make it. That’s stupid. The show was great because it was about rich kids doing rich kid stuff. Same reason The OC faltered after season 2…those were a damn fine two seasons though.
It definitely feels a bit like Entourage in that sense (cyclicality). Except Entourage had a bunch of bros doing bro things with a ton of money and women to delight our senses. Here we see 4 or 5 nerds in the same old incubator house making asinine jabs at each other in the same tired manner. I’m kinda glad you mentioned he would never be successful. I didn’t know that before and now it gives me even less incentive to watch on. The show feels like Big Bang Theory before it sold out to mainstream and included more female stars. I’m all for diversity/equality but that inclusion pretty much pivoted the show away from it’s core strength and shifted the focus onto less interesting characters.
entourage is amazing. prolly one of my favorite shows.

^yeah, it was mediocre at best. All the jokes are played out. They have some good zingers here and there, but the Bachman/Jin Yang combo was by far the best part of the season.
I need some new suggestions. Half way through season 2 of Red Oaks. Fine show. Ozark was pretty awesome.
