What I don’t get is how they chose such a not hot Rene Russo to star opposite Pierce Brosnan in that movie.
Wow, couldn’t disagree with you more.
Rene Russo’s face is so-so, which actually makes her believable in the role. Her body is way, way, way above average though.
Were you actually into Rene, or was your boner throughout the whole movie actually for Pierce? He is pretty hot, I will admit.
Actually, can i ask what’s the difference of a tuxedo and a suit jacket?
Taking the shirt an the bow tie out of the picture, i do know what a tuxedo shirt looks like, just the jacket alone, if we are not talking about a tuxedo with tails, just a short tuxedo, what are the differences between that and a black suit?
The dress isn’t that ugly, but it looks ridiculous on me because I’m only 5’2 and the hem is too complicated for me to fix. Anyway I’m not allowed to lol
Yes I was just complaining and yeah I know I’m selfish. Its incredibly stressful to get weekly mass texts when I’m dying from work+study.
nana- I can’t believe 5 weddings a year. I am lucky. Most of my friends are married young, and I only work with older married people, so this is probably the last wedding I have to deal with… until I get different friends or they all get married again.
It’s just a huge culture shock. I thought these giant american weddings were stuff made up on tv.
they used to be. Then girls started watching Disney princess crap and thought they were entitled to their own $50k wedding on somebody else’s dime.
Blame pintrest and TV
Pintrist YES! So true.
50k is a weak estimate. I think her dress alone was like half my base… I don’t get it, I can’t even bring myself to buy a CAR. Granted my base is pocket change for the rest of you, but she’s same age as I am so it’s probably half her’s too, though she does have mba… maybe I need to get mba too then I maybe can get $x0,000 dress to wear once
No, stay the way you are and make some guy really happy. It’ll be your competitive advantage ha ha
i think big weddings are everywhere now.
and sometimes people want a “small wedding” but at a resort somewhere and you end up having to take time off to go (possibly on your own expense)…
sigh… i don’t blame you i don’t think you are selfish, i don’t think people shoudl cause pain for others for the sake of one day in their life.
@Emichan - Is this wedding costing you less than $700? If so, you’re luckier than average.

Dress- 150 Lodging- normally 400, frugal me=40 airbnb Transportation- how much does gas cost? 200? I’ll borrow a car and it’s a 4 hour drive. Parties-200? I won’t remember anyway. Gifts- 200? How much am I supposed to spend? 100? Shoes- 200, frugal me=8, goodwill (no joke) Dinners to appease the bridex4? (spotty appearancex1) @50 each Total: frugal 748; normal 1550
Something like that Add emotional damages for excess wine consumed today and future health costs and yeah that’s well over 700. Edit- i could also add cost of second l2 test due to excess stress and obligations making me fail try 1 but that’s probably not fair or appropriate (as most time contraints are coming from extra work, not bridesmaid duties… )
Bump. Any good/bad news yet? July 4 weekend is upon us.
^ I went to a friend’s wedding last weekend. I survived, but Sunday was hell. I still have a baseball sized bruise on my arm with no real idea where it came from.
Total cost for the 4 day weekend was ~$650 and half that was the first class Delta ticket. Though I suppose I also spent some time with family, so the wedding wasn’t the entire purpose for the trip through it was the deciding factor.
Thankfully it was my 1 and only wedding for 2015.
Help! Wedding is next week. I’ve been so swamped with work I successfully kept it out of my mind but now I realized I haven’t done any preparation.
Help me out with American customs please.
- Is cash rude? How much should I bring if I can bring cash? - If I buy from the register, will they know what I buy? - What’s the appropriate budget per guest type? I.E. Friend, family, coworker, etc., by age group? My choices at the registry are in the range of 15$ shower hooks to $400 espresso machine.
Oh and I apparently have to be there on Friday and I can’t get that day off [I probably could if I really tried, but I don’t want it to reflect badly on me. Work reputation \>\>\>\>\>\>\> wedding rehearsal]
I also can’t find a hotel room… eeep >_< never procrastinate.
Buy from registry rather than giving cash. Americans don’t carry a lot of cash around. Some ethnic / immigrant weddings are exceptions (Vietnamese e.g.) but I assume your friend the bride is a “regular” American.
The store will note who bought what from the registry. Also you can attach a card to your gift!
$15…$400 - buy the cheapest choice that satisfies your conscience and sense of obligation - and that is still available after all the cheapstakes have had their fill of the registry items.
Airbnb if you can’t find a hotel. Sleep with one eye open (kidding, I’ve no idea.)
Gripping your pillow tight
Exit light
Enter night
You underestimate me- I meant I can’t find airbnb! It’s a small resort type town that has nothing but tourist traffic, I guess. Min hotel prices are around $400. There was a hostel I wanted to stay at but of course it’s fully booked now. Busy weekend. Crap!!!
And thanks for suggestions. I will buy a 50$ glasses set then. I was worried it was too cheap, but I’m not a relative so I guess it’s not a big deal.
Sorry- if I buy from the register, it will ship to their home… and do I show up empty-handed to the wedding? Should I have a card, or is that not normal? Should I bring something small, like I don’t know a box of chocolates? It’s a destination wedding. I don’t think I have time to prepare anything personal, and I don’t want it to be bulky.
