What kind of health insurance do you have?

Wait, so your employers don’t pay for your premiums? I’ve only had one (current) job in the States but I assumed this was standard practice. My plan is a high deductible of $2k and then my employer also puts $1500 into my HSA each year.

Also, about Canadian vs. US taxes: I was working in Canada making $x CAD, then I came down and was making $x USD but I was paying more in taxes than I was back in Canada. Obviously there were other factors that brought me down here but in terms of healthcare I take the Canadian system any day of the week.

It’s a heaven for familes. $7 daycare, cheap tuition fees, overly generous parental leaves and cheap real estate.

I’m the bachelor subsidizing (maybe we should switch provinces) these programs and I would be more pi$$ed at these tax rates if we had the same cost of living as California or New York. Make 6 figures here and you are in the top 2%, living like a king in a dynamic city with an insane amount of things to do everyday. The glut of attractive women doesn’t hurt either…mostly explaining why I am in no rush to get hitched.

top of the line plan 100% paid by employer.

High-deductible plan. Will be up 30% for 2016 with an even higher deductible. Lost the plan I had for years last year. Lost access to my doctor. I must be dreaming though, cause I was told the ACA would save me $2300 and not force me to lose my current coverage. Those that are for a large federal government really need to get the history books out and those with an anti-American sentiment may be able start celebrating soon. America is changing, maybe you’ll like the new version. Doesn’t look like I’m going to be much of a fan.

Is anyone DNR here or have a ‘vegetable clause’ to pull the plug if certain events happen?

I have a healthcare directive. Covers when to slap a DNR sticker on me.

My wife and I are employed by the same company, but she carries the insurance because she’s gets more of a subsidy due to earning less. It’s a weird deal, but she gets an extra $1000 in reimbursement dollars because she falls under a certain threshold.

We cover the two of us and 2 children. We pay $198 per pay period in premiums(26x per year). We have a $3800 deducitble for the family, of which any 1 person can acount for half. As an example, if my son with epilepsy ends up hospitalized(had been a yearly event up until this year), only the first $1900 counts towards the deductible. Preventative care is 100% covered. Coverage is 80/20 after deductible is met, up to a $7600 family out of pocket maximum. Prescriptions are $7 for generics and 50/50 up to $110 for brand name drugs.

So, we pay the $5148 in premiums, plus another $3800 in deductibles before any coverage really kicks in. The company funds an HRA with $1200 plus we can do various screenings and wellness checks to get an additional $800. This is the best plan our company offers right now.
