the average college degree holder has an IQ of ~115 so yes, a class full of individuals in college are above average. if you have an IQ of 100, you’re likely at the bottom of the class in terms of grades. there are very few individuals in a college math, business or science class with an IQ of 100, but yes, there may be a few out of a hundred. like anything, there are outliers.
And intelligence is not linear. Many different types. I was in a “gifted” program, believe it or not, and there were people that tested really high in IQ that couldn’t do math to save their life, but their memory, vocabulary, and reading comprehension was off the charts. Funny we were put in the same class. I understood first year calculus before I even opened the book. A few “high IQ” classmatess were essentially given a charity pass in the math classes. The two worst offenders have become doctors. One makes around 400k and the other around 800k. They would get through the CFA program on pure rote horsepower, but they would struggle with some of the questions that require a little nuance for sure.
In the context in which I used it, I meant that it can be harder for people to abstain from food than not diverting their attention to the television. You can get a lot more pleasure from stuffing your face in 60 seconds than putting down a book and channel surfing (at least I can).
And you can get a lot more pleasure from seeing your weight drop 2 lbs. per week every week than you can by studying for 6 months then hoping you pass a test.
^That is so unlike from a “Bodhisattva” (i.e “One whose essence is perfect knowledge,” or “A being whose essence is enlightenment”). Hope you are not that upset in reality, just a momentary lapse.
It’s a good thing you announced your departure because no one would have noticed. You had 1,157 posts before that one and honestly I don’t remember a single one. You must have been posting to yourself in the Feedback Forum.
Having watched American education deteriorate over the last 20 years…I’d say that many American high school graduates/adults are ill-prepared and by no fault of their own.
it’s interesting though. There are definitely well prepared students that come from public school, and really crappy ones from the sales schools. bad parenting definitely has a lot to do with it.
