Thanks for the post, phillip.platt. Anyways, my post was just in fun and I think the model of IQ is flawed in soooooooooooooooooooo many ways - IQ was originally a “quotient”, as in your mental age over your chronological age. Now, however, the numbers are expressed in terms of the normal distribution with mean 100 and std. dev. of 15 or 16 (depending on the model, maybe other values of std. dev.). Instead of a quotient, it is now a probability distribution. - Studying finance and science, the normal distribution is useful, but there can be many flaws, especially at the tails. Who knows what the skew and kurtosis is? I don’t think Taleb would approve. - How does anyone measure and rank human abilities such as musical talent (Mozart), physical talent (Woods), etc.? - Performance and effective smarts in order to achieve things at a high level in a certain field is based on motivation as well, maybe even mostly motivation over simply sheer brainpower (think Edison quote about perspiration over inspiration). - Neurogenesis. Exercise has been proven to increase the number of all sorts of brain cells. This suggests that IQ is not a static attribute, but rather dynamic, and furthermore in a directed way (studying chess for years will improve those mental faculties related to chess, but probably won’t do much to have you ace CFA exams). - How does one’s actions express your genes? Is it possible that certain genes become activated when you subject yourself to a certain environment? - Diet and lifestyle, surely eating healthy and exercise will improve blood flow to the brain and have it work better. --------------- Anyways, IQ is a limited concept in ordinary use and is flawed in so many ways. I still can’t believe I wrote this much, I meant a one sentence reply…

Geniuses.
