Why Does Milk Cost More Than Gas?

For us Californians, how about the Milk Advisory Board and price supports. Do they still have them?

supply and demand

Last time I checked we haven’t had a massive drop in the supply of milk or gas, nor a massive surge in demand for both. In November 2001, a barrel of oil was $18. That’s over 600% appreciation, the dollar only fell 35% during the same period. World demand and supply haven’t moved all that much. Nationwide milk hasn’t moved enough to justify over 40% appreciation in a year.

It might well be supply and demand in the futures markets which is not necessarily the same as supply and demand in the spot market.
