World Cup 2014

Watching the game, I get the impression Brazil just f****ed up rather than Germany playing well. A lot of these goals were soft goals, and defensive lapses, stuff that shouldn’t happen at this level.

All Of Brazil Is Crying Right Now

Seriously, and it wasn’t a one of, he was doing it again and again. Brainless tit.

He needs a seriously good covering player like Silva to play decently. It is no surprise Benitez and Mourinho pushed him into midfield.

Complete liability at the back.

Luiz is a great player, he was pushing up because he needed to create something, and Brazil was playing a high line anyways.

He’s a great player, an absolute clusterfuck of a defender.

I’ve been watching all kinds of sports for a very long time, and I’ve never seen anything like that. The best comparison I could come up with was Greg Norman falling apart in the final round of the 96 Masters, when he threw away a six-stroke lead and lost to Faldo. But that was one man, this was a nation. And that was watched by golf fans, this was watched by the entire world.

The last Superbowl (43-8) was pretty similar.

Greg Norman choked with a big lead. Brazil did not choke, never led in the game, and were beaten handily by the better/more favored team. It was not as if Brazil were heavy favorites and got dismantled. Germany were favored and won by a bigger than expected margin. The four goals in six minutes was pretty amazing to watch with Brazil’s defense in complete disarray.

Luiz is a crap defender but this isn’t all on him. The entire team was abysmal. Fred, Oscar(until goal), Hulk, Paulinho were all no shows yesterday. I think a fan was arrested because he was trying to get on the field to attack Fred. And they were allegedly chanting bad things to Fred.

And this german team is well-experienced in anhillating teams. Last world cup (more or less the same team, give or take a few players) they thrashed England 4-2 and Argentina 4-0 so they’re pretty good. These were Fiji Island confederations cup numbers. No one should lose 7-1. Not at this level and certainly not in the semi final in your home country (unless you’re SA). But if there was anyone to deal out this trashing, it’ll likely have been Germany. I’m sure the Spanish feel slightly better about their 5-0 loss. keyword: Slightly

On another note, i’m sure a part of Neymar is counting his lucky stars that he missed this game. There is absolutely nothing he could have done about this game. They would still have gotten worked. Brazil can feel better in the fact that they were missing 2 key players but truly I feel that this beatdown was inevitable.

^Diego Costa feels better too. Yeah this is pretty unprecedented…it’s not like Brazil didn’t have attacking options, they had Oscar who has a lot of similarities with Kroos in terms of playing style, but they’d never give him the central role.

Agree. I think Germany played a very good first half, while Brazil was simply ridiculous. Losing to France in 2006 was being outplayed. This was being outplayed and being ridiculous.

Germany had a better starting 11 and was tactically superior (that was clear in minutes). Brazil choked hard though, including the coach that set there watching the team fall apart. It looked like Brazil had 7 or 8 players when Germany had the ball. Some brazilians were barely running - it reminded me of street games where tired players wait a little bit to decide if it’s worth to come back and help the goalie a little bit.

On the 2nd half Germany took it easy. They saved energy for the final and yet scored twice more. If Germany played their top game maybe they could get to 10.

A lot of fans were booing Fred and/or the entire team. I’m more ashamed of the fans than the team, since many of them already were boing Chile’s national anthem a couple games ago. And it’s not because they’re against the concept of patriotism, since they chanted our own national anthem with full lungs.

Oh yeah, lots of riots, people burning buses and what not. Brazil’s international public image may actually get hurt by the World Cup. Or , as many say here, get closer to the truth.

Some interesting stats on the match itself:

This is the worst score of Brazil’s history. Overall and not only on World Cups.

Worst score of a home team, worst score in semis (or best scores if you’re german). Fastest 5 goals on a World Cup.

The last time Brazil had lost a home game was in 2002 (1x0 Portugal). The last official home defeat was 1975 (1x0 Peru).

Personally, I don’t think I’ve ever seen 4 goals in 6 minutes before – any examples?

Brazil had more possession and more shots yesterday. Yay?

Yes, I’m quite aware of all these things. But the core of both events involved highly skilled professionals having a mental meltdown for all the world to see.

There have been lots of lopsided Super Bowls, but the embarrassments in those cases are limited to cities. This was a nation of 200 million people watching in horror as the country’s proudest tradition was massacred on home soil. I think this will go down as worse than the Maracana in 1950.

i read some guy was trying to run onto the field and attack fred, thats nuts

Brazil certainly got waxed.

Game on!

If di Maria was in it would be game over.

Yeah, Perez did a decent job I thought. It is pointless to criticize Messi with the numbers and output he provides but he’s ambling across the pitch tonight. There were rumors that he is now suffering from excessive lactic acid build up, I wonder if that is the reason he is refraining from pressing so much without the ball.

Just going to be one moment now.

Lionel Messi might just lead his team into the backyard of their most hated rivals and take the greatest prize in sporting history.

Destiny is calling :

yo why brazil hate argy? messi is a cool cat
