wtf at this ethics question

A sounds weird to me too…I would go for C

I was undecided between A and C! Would’ve gone for C though. The reasoning on this thread seems logical…

can not be anything other than C; he just overheard someone saying something and without verification he made the sell recommendation…

I also chose C, but the answer is A why Because look at the question what they are asking for, violation of CFA Institute Standards? By just overhearing some one talking meaning ordinary employee it cannot be material, non-public information and they say " major piece of equipment fails" the assumption is not violation of CFA standards. These type of questions make me nervous.

You could argue it’s D as well since the employee is unidentified, what if it was the CEO, then it would certainly be material nonpublic information
