I understand that some posts were deleted, so I admittedly missed a few. But from my perspective, the only post of his or hers that stood out to me was the post questioning the credentials of a board member. I thought to myself, “that will probably get him banned.” And, wow, the very next day…

I’ve deliberately gone for the ban (and achieved it) on forums before, it’s kinda fun to go out with a bang. They banned me from Seeking Alpha for example. LOL, super satisfying.
I’m weighing in with my 2 cents. Over the years I haven’t found myself agreeing much with bchad, except for maybe the fact that he’s the tallest person that both he and I know. However I am throwing my support and clout behind him with this decision.
CVM seemed to have a major inferiority complex towards minorities. No one really believed he was black. He probably took on that persona after being bullied by or having some kind of bad experience with black people and used it as his repercussion-free outlet to mock them. I stand with the people criticizing Chad here. For far too long he let CVM get away with freely dropping the n-word in posts, conjuring up racial stereotypes, and writing in ebonics. Only after bchad and others were promoted to mods that this behavior start to get proactively curtailed. I too often wonder if Chad has permanently checked out into DGAF land.
CVM made constantly hateful, spiteful comments towards Asians and Indians, I remember one particular post where he was telling some dude to be proactive in his job search, telling him not to be like “meek Asians” who get nowhere in life. I responded with a particularly biting post saying that those meek Asians are probably his bosses, making multiple times his income and enjoying their vacation homes while he works weekends and holidays making the equivalent of an hourly minimum wage. For all his grandeur and postering, he never responded to my post, which is a good indication to me that I hit the nail on the head and maybe figured out why he has so much resentment towards these people.
CVM once borderline dislosed inside information about an M+A deal that his firm was going through, presumably out of spite since he was on the verge of losing his job once the deal closed. It was only when I pointed out that he was posting illegal information that he piped down. Business ethics wasn’t his strong suit.
CVM was the epitome of scrawny-nerd-hiding-behind-a-computer-screen syndrome. Talked a big game, but never had the b@lls to back up his bravado in person.
I am in total agreement. As a board, we had been far too forgiving towards CvM. As you say, his racist, degrading outbursts were absolutely ridiculous, and yet we kept letting him slide over and over again. I can say without any hesistation that it was totally wrong of US to let him continue for so long, and we are cracking down. AF will NOT be a reddit board of sht. The evidence of his violations was so non-defensiveable that it left us with no conclusion except to ban him.
While I have no proof myself, we have it on good authority CvM was not black at all (from another well known AF member). If true, it becomes difficult to say just how much of what CvM said was actually true at all.
Yea… I was always knew CvM was a scrawny white boy having some fun. If you took him seriously as a black man, I think you missed the joke.
I think this just makes me believe more we need tools to self moderate behavior so people like CvM dont get so frustrated, or StL must be able to weild the ban hammer to keep the ridiculous indian/Kuro style posts away.
So since we banned CvM we’re going to ban all the joke troll (presumably indian) posters who provoked him right? They’re the source…start with RR. Yes, CvM was inappropriate and made racist remarks but if you ban him it would be hypocritical not to ban RR. Please show that you are actually changing your stance on moderating and not just pissed that CvM blatantly called out a boardmember.
Agreed reddits functionality is amazing. Some intelligent people on the finance subs there as well. There is some shit there for sure, but the smaller specific subs are a lot like this board.
The mods have a tough and thankless job. CvM should of been banned, but I do think CvM became frustrated with the number of trolls on here that were not quickly banned/eliminated. I have been on this site a number of years and I remember there used to be bans every day and that seemed to keep the trolls off the site, attract new characters to the WC, and kept the regular users happy/engaged. There were some questionable bans, but I am in favor of that versus allowing the site to be run into the ground by racist comments and trolls.
I remember iheartiheartmath was banned multiple times. I think he was previously iheartmath then johnthainslimodriver. His posts were always funny but he was banned at the first sign of bad behavior. We need to get back to that on this site.
