I will add to S2000’s “analysis”. If I saw someone’s name written as “Dr. James, Ph.D.”, I would assume they have a Ph.D., but they either want people to call them “Dr.” or they don’t know how to present the credentials they have. I’ve met quite a few physicians who have both a M.D. and Ph.D. and the business cards always say “First Last, M.D., Ph.D.” I’ve yet to see anyone with a Ph.D. put “Dr. So and So” on their card over " So and So, Ph.D.", but I’m still young, so it’s possible I’ll see it.
I don’t see too many business cards of terminal degree holders, but “John Doe, PhD” seems better than “Dr. John Doe”. There’s more information contained in DVM, DDS, MD, PhD, DBA, EdD, etc. This is doubly true if you put your area of study (eg - PhD, Mathematics).
I am currently redesigning my private (non-work related) BC after 5 years. I don’t want to put any titles on it (I am not that kind of guy) but would like to put a tagline below my name describing my general area of expertise (I have a mixed position between quant driven analysis and portfolio mgmt). Do you have any suggestions on that? I don’t want it to be job title because they can change regularly. My candidates are:
-Investment Specialist
Both would cover my general area of expertise. I don’t want to be too specific as the people to whom I give those usually don’t know much about finance and I don’t want to use any special lingo.
