One Week Vacation

Yeah, Morroco sounds good, too. I’d forgotten about that.

I have been to NZ for five days traveling from Florida. It was amazing.

Since you only have a week, keep it in the Americas

Mexico City & surrounding cities is my vote

If you’re adventurous, North Korea.

israel

REALLY adventurous… North Korea: Hard to visit, impossible to leave LOL

Cuba.

As for North Korea, it isn’t actually so hard to visit – Koryo Tours and Young Pioneer Tours (among others) offer tours of North Korea for Americans… I just wouldn’t do it for only one week from the East Coast.

Action-vacation!

Apply here, 50 year old Corporate America types. Prior Ironman training recommended but not required.

Delta Force or Seal Team Six training highly encouraged…

Still technically illegal for the vast majority of US Citizens.

Good ideas so far. Obviously it’s a distance, but may e for next year…anyone been to Sri Lanka?

Yes, no offense but as an American i’m unsure how much of the country you will truly enjoy.

Sri Lanka does have a lot going for it though, it has some of the best dive locations in the world and has a colony of blue whales that for some peculiar reason remain near the coast of the island instead of migrating as blue whales generally do. Unless, you’re really unlucky you’re guaranteed to get near these animals if you wish.

It has a vibrant underground electronic music scene that is centred around the techno genre that has mushroomed since the war has gotten over and features artists from nearby Asian countries and as far away as Europe. The casinos are on a much smaller scale compared to Vegas / Macau but there is a decent amount of money flowing through them if that’s your thing.

It shares the same historical and cultural grandeur as India albeit on smaller scale so the temples, festivals, mahouts etc are always there if such things interest you.

If I remember correctly Bentota near Colombo was the place which had the entire spectrum of water related activities present and if you are travelling within the country then as with the whole of South Asia, trains are the way to go.

And as a Brit?

I have no idea, go there and let us know.

^LOL! I like that - keep it up

I absolutely loved Sri Lanka, probably one of the best holidays I’ve ever had.

Make sure you do a bit of research on the time of year to go as it varies substantially for different parts of the island. During the rainy season in some parts you can’t swim in the sea. As Zidhai mentioned, whale watching is an option but only at certain times of the year.

We took taxis everywhere rather than trains as we had a lot of luggage and the missus kept buying massive paintings and sculptures. Cost like £30 for a trip from Colombo to the sourthen beaches. They’re investing in tourism infrastructure following the end of the war.

The people were lovely as well, we didn’t encounter 1 person in 3 weeks that was blatantly trying to rip us off.

The beaches and the food are fucking spectacular.

We didn’t manage to find the underground electronic scene unfortunately…

That sounds awesome - I have a trip planned later this year to Maldives, will try to fit in Sri Lanka for ~2 days. you reckon it’s worth visiting if I can only spare ~2 days max…?

To be honest, I don’t know if I would go for only a few days.

I liked Colombo but a lot of people avoid it because it’s not really a great tourist city and there aren’t very many sights to see. A lot of people skip it and stay over in Negombo when they land and it was probably the most resort type place I visited, the beach wasn’t great either.

Otherwise you’re looking at a 4+ hour drive south or inland to Kandy

Aah, I see - oh well, another time
