What do you drive?

You’re a limo driver? The AF community is truly diverse.

Yeah I used to be able to track the car, but not anymore. Costs are just too great now. Admission fees, car inspection fees, tires, car maintenance etc etc. It’s now just a garage queen actually =)

Uber driver negro, don’t get it twisted.

I drove a shitty Ford Escort for years, then didn’t have a car for years as I live a 20 minute walk from work and then when I decided to get a car again I took the A7 out for a test drive and I couldn’t not buy it. Was 2nd hand, obviously, and I got a good deal.

I get the whole issue with dropping a tonne of cash on a depreciating asset but if you don’t need the cash for anything else and you’re happy with your portfolio then why not take some profits and spend it on something you enjoy.

I completely agree. Once I have the disposable income, I want an M3/S4 type of car, I just don’t have the income or savings where I’m comfortable supporting that right now.

I agree its fine to spend that kind of cash if you’re going to get more enjoyment out of it, versus other uses. I figure the enjoyment difference between the A6 and Passat is not enough compared to what I could do with that cash. I’m not against luxury goods. I’m just personally more in favour of having cash. Having enough money to do nothing for several years and still live OK is security worth more than a faster car is, to me. If I was still 24 and single with my income today, I’d probably be driving an S6. I understand why people buy them.

I actually enjoyed drivjng the Passat wgen I had it as a rental. It was unbelievable on gas mileage

2008 Ford Fusion. With a sunroof!

As for upgrading to a more prestigious vehicle, I have a child who will very likely be starting kindergarten at a private school next year. That will be a chunk of change and then some. You 20-something youngsters contemplating a fancy car might well consider saving the money for expenses you haven’t started thinking about.

I’m rolling at 40mpg right now commuting. That’s not the diesel. Its a decent car to drive, won’t set any 0-60 records but its adequate for daily traffic and some highway. Its huge inside but doesn’t feel huge to drive like Accord/Camry. That’s why I picked it.

represent! 2011 VW Jetta financed at 0%. i’ll take 0% all day, says the banks.

2008 camry. im juss waiting for this shiz to break.

You realise that you paid up front for that 0%, right?

You might be waiting a long time.

Hey Frisian–does the kindergartner fit comforably in the back of your ride? I’m wondering because I’m thinking about getting an Edge (shared platform with Fusion) and I want to make sure that I can fit the whole family in it for years to come. (Me, the wife, and two kids.) Remember too, that I’m not a seven-footer like BChad, but I’m on up there in both height and girth.

Greenie - with 2 kids I highly recommend that you take a look at something with 3 rows of seating. Athough you might only use the 3rd row 1-2x per year, you’ll find it to be a big plus those 1-2x and you get extra cargo space when you’re not using it.

^That will be the wife’s car. She wnats a monster SUV (Expedition, Tahoe, Sequoia). And she’s certainly welcome to it.

Personally, I don’t like big cars. In fact, I’m perfectly happy in my little Mazda Tribute (shared platform with Ford Escape), but I know I’ll want something a little bigger as the kids get bigger. But I’m just looking to drive around the metropolis of Midland and haul my kids around in relatve comfort.

Speaking of Ford Escape, when my wife’s Explorer went into the shop a while back, we got one of these as a loaner (the new ones). I really liked it. I thought it was a good ride. The only thing that would keep me from buying one of these is the fact that I’ll need to haul kids around in it.

Acura TL currently but considering going with A4 in a few years.

I’ll give you three guesses . . . but the first two don’t count.
