Brilliant GM, Just Brilliant

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123906731177395605.html#mod%3DtestMod%26articleTabs%3Dcomments hmmm… the Segway didn’t work with people standing on it, so lets put a seat on it and make it bulkier and less accessible. the guys at GM are geniuses. do they really think that this vehicle has any chance whatsoever. i wanna meet the guy behind this partnership and roshamboh him.

This is going to be a pure money sink. I can’t see anyone buying that product.

hahaha. thanks. i laughed so hard that i dont think i need coffee for the rest of the day.

Video of the first PUMA fender bender will be priceless.

Wow - another great American product

The market didn’t aprove. hahah http://www.google.com/finance?q=gm

So what happens when one of these collides with a Hummer?

GO LAPD!

LOL! I almost lost my lunch when I saw this.

Dood, thanks for the laugh this morning! HA, brilliant!

Sounds more like a late April’s fool day joke. Does it come with one or two cup holders ?

Ok, c’mon the PUMA ain’t that bad. It’s better than the suburban. I have driven a segway, and while they might not have a place in society yet they are a fantastic little nugget of engineering. Engineering & innovation like THAT is what gives me hope for our society. That, a good free porn site and a $2 bottle of shiraz.

Why is everyone hating on this? I would love to try one of these out.

Yes, I agree that the engineering aspect of this shows some creativity. Presumably these can be low-emission vehicles, at least if you’re not getting the electricity from coal and the batteries don’t require tons of pollutants to create/dispose of them. Maybe it’s a response to the Tata Nano or the SmartCar - in which case it seems lacking. The other question is whether this is intended as a road vehicle or a sidewalk vehicle or a bike-lane vehicle. If it’s a road vehicle, it looks like a mobile death-by-crushing-from-other-vehicles device. Also, can it go fast enough not to bog traffic down? If it’s a sidewalk vehicle, I don’t want these things crowding up the sidewalks… where are we going to park them anyway? It makes more sense as a bike-lane vehicle, I think. But I like to bike, and I don’t really like the idea of these things taking up the bike lane.

Wouldn’t these work in a highly densed city? The only downside is the cost. I would def use this to get around college campus or go down the street to buy some groceries. But then an electric golf cart would do just the job… I saw mall police riding on these. Don’t think shop lifters can outrun the cops.

I think if only Segway made this, it might be semi-acceptable since they make weird stuff for a small market. GM being involved just fuels the fire that they can’t make something practical.

Truth is hard to swallow but, looking not far into the future, CARS are not practical. Oil companies drill 2 miles into the ground for just a chance at hitting a well that will run dry in 3-5 years… and those metrics would not be considered a risky prospect! Thus I’ll say it again, cars as we drive now are not practical.
