apply for the Charter at CFAI, incl. your local society
simultaneously verify professional experience
sign and pay and name your references
according to the previous years, CFAI will confirm/award the Charter beginning to mid September, although the certificate will be distributed later on.
Clever, I would highly recommend getting the ball rolling now. The membership application was simple and straightforward to fill out - took only a matter of minutes. As far as the references, each of mine took no longer than 10 minutes to fill out their portions. The work experience requirement needs to be approved first by CFAI and then by your local society. If you wait until August 12/13 to do this, you’ll likely grow impatient as everyone who gets a L3 pass will be doing it at the same time. From what I read last year, it’s wise to get this done ahead of the results e-mail if you’ve got the 48 months.
I completed the application last week, submitted it, and my work experience was approved within 48 hours. I’m now waiting on NYSSA to approve it and I’ll be in a good spot if I’m fortunate enough to receive a pass e-mail in August. I won’t be paying membership dues until then though, as I have no interest in being a full member without the privilige of using the letters (you can get this all done (i.e. the work experience approval, references, etc.) before paying dues).
Okay, you obviously can arrange all the above to accelerate the process to get the charter, and as you wait with paying dues, the regular membership is still pending.
Is already anybody hear a member if your local society?? I assume that the local society provides for support concerning the references, right? Any ideas on that?
I was able to complete my application with three references (I used a direct supervisor, another VP, and a coworker) and work experience and submit it to CFAI and NYSSA. CFAI was the first to approve and now I’m awaiting approval from NYSSA. After that, I will have to complete a professional conduct statement or something and pay dues. At no point during that process was I prompted to enter payment information.
Went to the website -> signed in -> clicked on my name -> then clicked on ‘manage applications’ and began my application.
Sometime in the next couple of weeks, you’ll all probably get an e-mail saying, “Why don’t you go ahead and apply for membership? Here’s what you need to do.” It will tell you all the stuff you need to do.
However, it’s not a “sneak peek” saying that you passed. There was a big brouhaha about it last year.
One thing I would NOT do personally–that’s pay anything to CFAI. Until you know you passed and your references and work experience come back OK, I would be very leery of parting with my money.
