NYC Native Killed by Lion on Safari

So a lady on a safari in Africa pulled up a few meters from a lion, rolled down her window (despite signs everywhere saying to keep windows up) and based on reports snapped photos the entire time the lion approached until the second it lunged through her window to kill her. If you all venture outside NYC, it’s helpful to remember you’re no longer in a carefully regulated environment and use common sense. Clearly she was a smart, successful girl, but on the other hand how smart do you have to be to know that wasn’t a good idea.

A similar thing happened in NH this winter when the JP Morgan VP went hiking in the White Mountains into a known storm and died of exposure. It seems like NYC’ers are prone to regime specific hyper intelligence.

I think killed by a lion is a Top 3 death.

how many shotgun shells to kill a lion ?

After “heart attack while having sex with porn stars”.

^too much of the blue pill can give you a heart attack,I used to know an old captain who took about 4 times the maximum dose of viagra. The guy had red eyes all the time

I’d say what happened to her concluded that she definitely wasn’t smart. and deserves a darwin award.

in what situation would it be a good idea to roll down your window enough for a 300 lb box of wild killing fury to be able to attack anything in the car??

^ Yeah but she also did visual effects for Game of Thrones and several major movies. So you have to balance the two.

dan bilizerian did the same thing. took 200mg of the blue stuff, a lot of the white stuff, some of the green stuff, and some chinese food to top it off for a heart attack — pretty hilarious interview https://youtu.be/NjR0fqSzcpc

200mg ?Shit what did he wanted to do ? I once took 20mg to see the effects and had to breathe out of my mouth all the time.I dont think that after a certain dose there is a corelation between the dose and the quality of wood you have

Just for accuracy. The victim’s husband was with JP Morgan. And the couple was new to NYC. The hiker was doomed by overconfidence it seems. She was experienced. The lion tamer was simply polyannish and naive I would guess.

They said she was experienced but none of the mountains shed climbed were legitimate cold weather routes. So as a winter hiker she was pretty inexperienced.

Maybe you stereotyped too quickly? http://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2015-trader-in-the-wild/

No Ghibli, I’ve read that article. I’ve also spent a significant amount of time climbing in the white mountains in NH. She was inexperienced. The background they listed is basically the equivalent of learning to ride a bike with training wheels.

Mt. Killimanjaro is a single day summer hike and Mt. Elbrus is known for its easy pitches and lack of severe weather, particularly in the summer, when she climbed it. Other than that she took a course on “crampon techniques and snow caves” which is as 101 as it gets. I’m suprised there wasn’t a segment on wiping techniques. What you just described is a complete novice going into the White Mountains which are known for some of the most severe weather and slide prone pitches. I’m sure that background sounds good if you have no idea whatsoever what they’re talking about, but it’s nothing.

I live in MA, and have been ice climbing and backcountry skiing in that exact area she was in for about 5-6 years. When I heard she died in that storm I shook my head because everybody and I mean everybody knew about the weather pattern and what it would mean. Except of course for this NYC’er and whether or not she was new to NYC is irrelevant. Maybe it just attracts a certain type of personality.

Hindsight is always 20/20 but if you know anything about lions then you probably know that they are lazy as fuck. Male lions sleep like 18hrs a day. So to a tourist seeing a tranquil lion struting around your car might make the situation seem much safer than it really is.

It was a clear lapse of good judgment and a perfectly timed lunge from the lion that led to her demise. I bet she has/had a pet cat at one point in her life and she thought all cats are safe to pat.

The thing that got me is that witnesses described the situation where the cat got up and then walked fixedly straight at the car and got with in a meter or two before lunging and she took photos the entire time. Dude, if its me and a huge cat is walking straight at me staring at me, that window is going frickin up.

hopefully you would be in a car that doesn’t have the sensor that puts the window back down if there’s a hand, or killer lion claw in the way

The hiker had hiked the White Mountains in the winter with her husband and solo many times, including overnights… I lost touch with them, but I socialized with them in the past and know their story. Funny how people think they get a full and accurate story from the press. Painting her as a typical New Yorker is comical. Try growing up in Siberia. All peaches and cream. Probably going to take a couple more years for BS to find humility especially on topics he believes himself to be an expert, which I don’t doubt he is when it comes to adventure sports. She messed up no doubt, but she’s not in the same category as the lion tamer.

It’s going to take a high burden of proof to look at what she did and believe she had any significant experience in the Whites. The outcome itself speaks volumes. If you’re dying on a winter hike in NH, you clealry weren’t as prepared or as experienced as you thought you were, end of discussion. If it’s because of a known and forecasted weather pattern, then that statement is doubly true. I haven’t seen any evidence of “many” solo winter overnights in the Whites. I’d have to see that to believe it.

And you can’t post an article and say I’m wrong then say it’s funny that I believed I could get the full story by using the evidence from the same article you supplied genius.
