2014 Essay Answers

Gotham, I’m not criticizing or anything, I appreciate you helping out. Just regarding past AM exams, I plan on looking at much of them to get the structure. I just remember older exams at level II and there were pretty big differences the further back you went. Entire item sets could be outside of the current years curriculum, questions are asking things for topics not covered – it was almost counter productive. I don’t want to waste valuable study time.

Just curious if others that took the level III exam if it was helpful doing the 2007 (for example) am session? Part of me feels it’ll help bc you need practice with the exam structure. Sorry for getting off the thread’s original topic but this is something I’ve been wondering about.

You wouldn’t be wasting your time if you went back to the 2007 exam. Just don’t spend too much time reading the answer sheet.

By the time you get to taking practice exams, you should be able to tell if something’s irrelevant. There were a few that weren’t relevant from 2007 if I remember correctly, but most were.

I used this as a rough guideline while going through past exams. While not perfect, it was a good start. As IsThereAny noted, by the time you get to that stage, you’ll be able to filter out the questions that are no longer relevant.

Fair points.

I did 2006 to 2013 and found it to be extremely useful. One of the most useful parts of my prep.

Some of the older ones with a few irrelevant questions hardly took any time. Spend as much time reviewing the answers as you do writing the papers. Do the more recent ones twice. You’ll notice a change in the 2012,13 & 14 papers. A bit more hardcore and much more time constrained.

Use Arif’s guide to avoid doing questions that are no longer in there, further down in that thread there are a few comments saying that a few other questions weren’t relavant.

Milwaukee is actually a great city. I’d encourage everyone to come visit, but yes, you’d probably want to come in Summer/Fall rather than Dec-Mar. Besides being a great city with a ton to do there is actually a pretty large finance community – tons of small/mid size asset management firms.

Agreed; will do! Thanks.

So I plan to review it more thoroughly - maybe this weekend - but I just glanced at #1 and don’t remember any of that!

UPDATE: I couldn’t stop reading…how did I pass that test? My scores indicate I was stronger in the AM, too.

lets review this bros while sipping on some sizzurp

Thx for posting, gonna print that stuff to read it in the evening. I´m really curious if I can recall a single piece of the exam…

I was expecting it to be a lot more interesting than it was. I only got to the 2nd question as I’ve forgotten all of it and it means nothing to me.

This! Ticking off the exam and enjoying the Charter

made me nervous just to look at… so glad I’m done!

I still can answer some of the questions but certainly not all. Glad that part of my life is behind me, on to other stuff. Good Luck to all the other candidates this year.

This coming year I am actually acting as a mentor to some candidates in my country. Feels good to give back a bit.

Jeffsick you made it brother.

Feels weird looking at the test… remembered some and can’t even remember the rest…but feels great I’m done!!!

Tips to L3 Candidates: Practice, Practice, Practice… Time managment is key to success Wish you all the best in 2015

Time Management especially in the AM section. It’s easy to get caught up in 1 question and spend too much time on it.

It is possible that this Level 3 Essay is not the one I had? I took it on the Alternate Date (Sunday after) but I’m like 95% sure there are questions missing which I had - that I was waiting to see the answer for. Wouldn’t think the CFAI would give differing questions to make sure it is the same scale…?
