27 bps?

Does anyone know why when China cuts rates they cut them by 27bps? I know this isn’t a big deal, but why not some multiple of 5? 27 just seems overly complicated, like some sort of British measurement standard.

Good question, always wondered that.

b/c the 27 bps is exactly the right rate for stable growth at reasonable inflation. 26 bps would mean hyperinflation would be completely out of control. 28 and the economy slows to a snail’s pace. 27 is the right number. 27 it is.

Lucky number?

From the Chinese Constitution: “then shalt thou count to twenty seven, no more, no less. twenty seven shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be twenty seven. twenty eight shalt thou not count, neither count thou twenty six, excepting that thou then proceed to twenty seven. twenty nine is right out”

I can guarantee (well I should never say guarantee I guess) that they would not cut by 24, as anything with “4” is very superstitious to mean death in chinese (saying 4 does not mean death, but death sounds similar to 4 with a different tone. Why they cut by 27 is beyond me. 4 is regarded as death 6 is neutral 8 is really lucky If you ever go to China and want to buy a cell phone, note that numbers ending in “8” are expensive and “4” are cheap. Pay the extra money to buy the “8s” if you are thinking of doing business over there.

What if I want to start a mortuary business in China? Can I end in 4 then? edit: Or what about being an arms dealer in China? Or offering thrill seeking vacations to climb sick Chinese mountains (they have lots, many of which have never been climbed)?

also by moving 27bps that moves lending rates to 6.66%…a devilish neutral rate.

Amen”

You guys are going too far… Should I suggest? Let’s remove this post?

“Chinese police will shoot your balls off very quickly…People, this is a very rude post” The first part is from Miss Manners?

Just waltz in, order a Karaoke table or purchase a very expensive cup of tea… With 8888 as the address, how can you go wrong?

Joey, I have my ultimate respect for you. Please look at this post from the beginning to end. You are telling me you have the gut to say this is appropriate?

No, it’s not appropriate, but in the greater scheme of things it was just slightly offensive and not aggressive so I don’t care about it that much. I respect you, too.

The Chinese recognize luck plays a big role in things. I’m not sure why they cut 27bps but it could have something to do with that. The number 7 is associated with fate/destiny.
