Macs made cnet’s list of the top 5 desktops and top 5 laptops. Among these groups, the Macs were competitvely priced.

Macbooks are competitively priced yes. Macbook Pros and the iMacs, not for the price. And definitely not the Macbook Air.

For an ultralight laptop, Macbook Air is pretty competitively priced.

Profit margins (both gross and net) are lower at Apple than at both Intel and Microsoft, thus Apple product (not the stock) are a better value.

Macs are overpriced what what they are. Nothing beats assembling your own computer. If you want a laptop go with dell or lenovo. The only reason Macs are better then PC is because they bring *nix to home users - that means less Malware and Viruses.

P.S. For anyone who doesnt believe me, you better get a complete hardware list of Aaple and then try to assemble identical computer on NewEgg. You will see the difference

I have assembled my own PC and I have an iMac. The iMac is much better overall and the cost all said and done was very similar. The PC i built is definitely more powerful but the iMac can handle its own. I love that the iMac doesn’t have a tower. Unless you want to ante up another 300 bucks for a liquid cooling system your PC is likely to be very loud. Mine needs several fans to keep cool and a ridiculous amount of power to keep it running. The iMac is whisper quiet. Also my motherboard crapped out and needed to be replaced. The best part of the PC is that it is upgradable. Mine is upgradable to 8 GB Ram and 1GB on the video ram. Also you can hook up several monitors to it. I have the Newegg invoice for my PC and my iMac invoice. They seem pretty comparable. I guess it depends on the quality of parts you buy. Apparently I didnt spend enough on the motherboard though. PCs are a pain in the a$$. I’m done with them. 3 years ago I would have never said that. The mac OS keeps getting better, the Windows OS keeps getting worse. I dont know of too many people who would disagree with that.

I concur. When the new MacBook Pro comes out, I’m going to jump on that like how Jay Alford jumped on Tom Brady during SB XLII.

XP is sufficient for what 99% of the ppl use computers for

Something no one had mentioned is the incredible customer service that AAPL provides. I am very happy w/ my IMac w/ graphic designer for a husband we have just about every item in the AAPL catalog. As a non-copmuter geek (luv u guys!) I appreciate that fact that when/ if anything goes wrong I can walk it into the store and have it repaired or replaced on the spot. A 3 yr extended guarantee on the IMac adds less than 10% to the price and gives you peace of mind that you won’t drop another dime until its time to replace it anyway. No sending it out, no waiting weeks, no one telling you it was your fault. I was basically told that as long as there were no tire treads on it- it would be covered. I know people who have put an IPod through the wash and had it replaced.

I bought a used Macbook off of a guy on Craigslist for my stepdaughter. About 3 months later, the battery stopped working. A new battery costs something like $129, so I took it over to the Apple store just to have it looked at because, heck, maybe there is some simple thing they can do so that I don’t have to buy another battery. So they look at it, and say that the battery really is dead, and hand me a new one. Now the REALLY amazing part. I said, “Wow, is it still under warranty?” The guy said, not technically, but here’s a battery anyway. AND he knows that I bought it second hand. My jaw dropped to the floor just after I said Thank You!

CFAhooker, all apples now have intel chips FYI

I’m glad that it’s cheaper to build a PC than buy a Mac, but guess what, Steve Jobs doesn’t give a f*** about you. You represent an infinitesimally small percentage of the population. Most people buy a stock computer and use it for two years until it’s so overridden with spyware from all the porn (or celebrity gossip) they look at that it doesn’t start-up anymore. Then they buy a new one. The most important arguement here was made by Dapper. Very few people have yet experienced the cr@p that is Vista. Vista offers very little in improvement, is a beast to run, and has crashed on me several times (a couple times even needing to be reset to a previous restore point). Now that I’ve replaced the GUI with a different shell it’s all good, but maybe about 1% of the population would know how or would be willing to do that. 95% of people who use computers have no idea how to troubleshoot any sort of problem. As alright as XP is, new computers are coming packaged with Vista and that’s not going to change. As more ‘general population’ people start using Vista, you’re going to hear more negative reviews about it and more complaints. That’s only going to spur more people to switch to Apple product as they are more user-friendly. Then there’s the question of what’s going to come after Vista. Microsoft scrapped a lot of the best ideas for Vista because they just couldn’t get their sh*t together in time. Their next OS is going to be just as plagued in the development stage with delays. Check out this blog entry a programmer who worked on Windows. http://shellrevealed.com/blogs/shellblog/archive/2006/09/26/The-UI-design-minefield-_2D00_-er_2E002E002E00_-flower-field_3F003F00_.aspx It shows you how much difficulty they have updating something as simple as Minesweeper. I’d be surprised if they have a new OS come out in under 6 years. I don’t know if AAPL is going to hit $100, but at $120 it is a buy for me over the long-term. As long as Apple can remain nimble and innovative it is going to continue to destroy the competition and build it’s brand. Oh and for the record I called Apple as a buy in that last discussion we had ~6 months ago.

six month ago aapl was at $160. Only if OSX can run regular PCs…

^ pretty funny

Shouldn’t you guys disclose your shares of apple?

0 shares of AAPL owned that are not part of some mutual fund.

I wish their “Time Machine” software would let me go back and buy their stock a few years ago.
