I am in the interview stage for a mutual fund ABS/MBS analyst position. It’s entry level and I realize it’s not bulge bracket supply side or anything glamorous, but that’s fine because I’m a career changer from company finance and would be content just to successfully make the jump. Are my odds good, should I be aiming higher/lower, and what are your thoughts on getting into the MBS markets right now.

No input on this?

Seb25, I appreciate the feedback, that’s the kind of things I was hoping to get feedback on as I’m pretty new at all this. Is there any upside to a position in that field given industry outlook?

Is there any upside to a > position in that field given industry outlook? depends on if you are willing to sit tight and wait and when the market is maybe back to normal you will be busy and do well in monetary terms. It was a very good division to be in before this current mess. The top quality creds will flow first with a greater detail of scrutiny from all parties involved. I meet with our ABS guys on a daily basis and it’s funny that they are trying to ‘velcro’ themselves to any possible deal or transaction e-mail list to justify their existence. PS. This is in IB by the way. Just express your concerns with the fund and what their actual plan is.
