Hi level IIIers. I have kind of a unique situation and I am looking for some advice. It is detailed in the post below. I would love some feedback from those that have already taken and passed level II. Thanks in advance. http://www.analystforum.com/phorums/read.php?12,672590
"4 hrs each weekday and 8 hrs a day on the weekends " …is that from now on ?? Either ways your best strategy is to focus on the heavily weighted topics …FSA ,equity ethics and FI …
Wow. That’s a lot on your plate. What I did not see is anything suggesting you must, without a doubt, pass the test this time around. There is almost no downside of taking the test as a ‘dry run’ if that’s all you are prepared to do. Taking the test, even if you bomb it, is worth at least three weeks of study time in helping you prepare for next year. You already paid, I think the only cost from here on out is how much time you divert from your family situation and all the additional work responsibilities stemming from that. So my advice would be to study what you can–focusing on the core material of FI, FSA etc as suggested above. Going for the CFA is a great thing, but you’ve got a lot of other unique responsibilities, too. Do what you can, but keep everything in perspective.
It always depends on the person. I’m starting to study for level 3 this week. I did fine with this same plan on level 1 and 2. Start mid-March, study several hours for ~ 4 days a week, then 7-8 each weekend day. That gets me well over 300 hours and I don’t have to prioritize anything - just cover all the material. Plus, this leaves me a social life since I can go out 3 nights a week - thurs, fri and sat. You should be okay with carving out the time you suggested.

how much u study is irrelevant. how “well” u study makes the difference. meaning that u have to be very efficient. forget about traditional studying. this is a multiple choice exam that needs to be completed in 6 hours. do practice exams focus on them. real exam will be similar. just keep in mind what ur studying for. u are not trying to be a prof. or u are not going to write a book on the subjects. u will nail down a multiple choice exam. dont get lost in the details. dont try to learn everything coz u cant. make ur strategy accordingly, u should know urself better than anybody else. i hope u understand what I am saying. so make the best out of ur efforts keeping these in mind. then u will pass. gl.
focus on financial statement analysis en equity valuation. Dont bohter too much details (derivatives etc) Most Important: Pratice Questions!!!
Thanks for all the replies and good luck on level III.
