Hi all, I’ve been struggling to make a decision about a live prep course for the CFA L1 and I can’t seem to get any good advice from anyone (especially cos I hardly know anyone who knows what the CFA L1 really is) I don’t know if I should or not enroll in a live prep course (Weekly after-work classes from Feb-May, 60h) here in Madrid. Pro’s: 1. Professors are CFA Charterholders 2. It will help a lot on the discipline of study, not to mention have someone qualified to answer your questions 3. Meet other people writing the exam, since I don’t know anyone here that is. Con’s 1. They have used CFA as a noun twice (website and email they’ve sent). Call me picky, but I don’t see it as the best business card. 2. It’s very expensive (for me), twice the exam’s cost. And most importantly: 3. The whole freakin’ classes will be in SPANISH (even though it would be impossible for someone to pass if they’re not proficient in English). Although I can speak/understand Spanish perfectly, it is still a foreign language. The idea of being in a class where the Professor will translate a question/answer or use a definition of a concept in Spanish and not English to be quite freighting. (principio de la mala conducta professional, REALLY?) oh, not to mention the risk of having Spaniards ask a question about something they didn’t understand not because they didn’t grasp a concept but because they didn’t get something in the wording. Any comment will be most appreciated, Thanks.
I am a native english speaker and the wording in english on the CFA exams will really trip you up. I speak spanish as a second language and would not venture near the CFA exam trying to learn this stuff in spanish. Buy the video CDs and watch them at your own pace - I went with Stalla (I like their videos/teachers better), but Schweser has videos as well. - Phil
