Hey guys, advice needed with forming a study plan 5 weeks from d-day…
I started reading Schweser, and taking notes two months ago. I blasted right through the material, without doing EOCs or Qbank questions. Now, less than 40 days from the exam, I take out my first morning exam (Schweser 1 - AM), and I remember zilch. I wasn’t even able to go past the 4th question since half my answers were blank. In hindsight, this strategy may have worked in levels 1 and 2 since you could try deducing the answers from the multiple choices.
Given these, what would be the best course of action? Should I go through EOCs this week, or just dig in further with the AM exams and fill in the holes with EOCs? I’m thinking, since there’s a large set of AM questions anyway (6 Schweser mocks + CFAI mock + past AMs 2010-2016 = 14 AM exams), the second option should be fine.
Play the exam - not the curriculum. You are there to pass the exam. Keep plugging away at the practice exams and you will improve. I’ve found I’ve gone from about 40-50% in my first exam to the 70%s for my fourth practice exam.
On it, hashtag… Will also try get 80% of the Qbank scores correct to get a free study package next year. #PassProtection
Thanks, London Gooner. I’ll stick to the AM questions then, and plug away. It gets pretty discouraging to say the least.
Yeah, I’m working/studying. Work, however, isn’t too busy— just something to fill 40 hours with. Definitely, it’s not a brain-dead type of thing by the time I get home. I’ll be taking two weeks off from the exam, so that should help.
Including today, there are 39 days left until the exam. In Canada, that’s 28 working days, and 11 weekend/holidays. Putting in 4 hours per working day, and 8 hours per weekend/holiday, amounts to 200 hours.
Why would someone opt to start preparing for 2018, instead of exhausting ~200 hours over the next 39 Days and going “all-in”. It’s not like he hasn’t started studying, he went through the material/took notes already. OP, if you want it bad enough, you can surely still pass this exam.
Edit: taking 2 weeks off before exam = even more hours to play with.
I am in a similar boat. Although I started early Feb, my past 5-6 weeks have been wasted. Got dengue. I am left with ethics and GIPS on my first reading, but I barely remember other topics. I have wasted last 2 days contemplating whether to continue or give up. Also my passport renewal got stuck due to some issue. 50-50 chance that I will get it before exam date. This sucks.
Thanks for the vote of confidence. Definitely all-in. I hate putting everything else on hold. Really admire how the other guys did it, even spanning 4-6 years!
I’m in a similar boat as you - just yesterday I finished all my condensed notes. I’m going to take 1 week off from work in the middle of May. I’m essentially reviewing all notes on Volume 2 through 5 (no ethics/performance/gips, ie. focusing on the meat of curriculum) for next 18 days - at which point, with long weekend mixed in, I’ll have 10 full days (no work) to go over any weaknesses and hammer a couple mocks - then remaining 11 days just fine tuning, staying sharp, going over ethics/volume 6 a little, and working on weaknesses.
5 weeks to get your passport?? Man, that’s hard. Time lost due to dengue would be something you may overcome, but not having a passport makes it impossible. Was the test self-funded?
That’s smart. Having the week of in the middle of May seems more reasonable than having it at the end of— By the end of May, it would be too late to realize that you need more time.
Well, good luck to us. Here’s to the next 40 days.
I’m guessing here, but you are more likely to not remember the stuff you covered early on.
Maybe go back to the core of level 3, PWM, AA, FI, IM and then work it from there. You don’t have much time though, I would do the EOC questions but only the multiple choices and just read the non-multiple choice questions and answers. You also need to do the topic tests and that took me about a week to do…
Haven’t started mocks or TT yet. I am going to start TT from today. Mocks from around 10th May. I know I am running very late, but I am still going to try.
