Advice

i am graduating this upcoming spring and have nothing lined up. I have been e-mailing alums and have had phone conversations. One phone conversation recently went pretty well and he asked for my resume and I sent him an e-mail thanking him. No response and its been over three days. Should i follow up?

3 days is a lot for a kid looking all day for jobs, its not a lot for a busy professional trying to make time to do you a favor. Wait at least a full business week IMO.

I say no dude. Don’t annoy them with your unsolicited calls or e-mails. If they want you they’ll call.

You went to BC, you’ll never get a job No but seriously, akanska has it right IMO

Thanks for the quick response.

They would take at least 3 weeks to get back to me after each interview and I was told that its their way to test if you actually care or are just throwing out a million resumes and hoping anyone will respond. Take into consideration the type of firm to. If its a huge shop with a dedicated HR department it may be sitting in a stack forgotten, so a follow-up call is not out of the question. If its your uncle at a 6 man boutique and they haven’t called in a week it might be the passive way of them telling you no thanks.

thanks its actually a small buyside shop also i did not list my GPA and was hoping she would ask whats your GPA.

Sometimes things do get lost in the cracks. But do wait a week, maybe a week plus a day or two. If its an alum who asked for your resume, they probably sincerely intend to respond. Having worked at leanly resourced places most of my career, sometimes people are just really busy and can only give attention to their top couple priorities (of which you probably are not one). So give them a little room, then a short friendly (i.e. do not sound annoyed or entitled) follow-up. Good luck.

Stay in school

School is for fools! Look at meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Thanks all i appreciate it.

Agreed. When I get a resume without a GPA on it, I assume it is because GPA is under 3.5. While this doesn’t automatically result in the resume going to the circular file, it does move down the pile.
