AF Fantasy Football League

Ahhh… the old snake draft vs. auction debate. I remember being in your shoes and thinking snake drafts are just fine and there no reason to do an auction draft… until I actually did one and realized how much better it is. The main reason why an auction draft is infinitely better than a snake draft is that is puts everyone on a level playing field. Let me use an example to illustrate - let’s say I want both Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson on my team. Guess what, there is absolutely 0% chance of me getting these two players in a snake draft; however, in an auction draft, you can use your money to purchase whomever you like, so long as you are able to completely fill your roster. Therefore, there is no limitation to who can be on your team, unlike in a snake draft, where if you get any pick outside the top 4, you are arguably not getting one of the top tier RBs no matter what. In my mind, there is not even a debate as to which is better (this is coming from someone who has probably done around 50 fantasy leagues in his lifetime, and only 2 of them have been auction drafts). Having said all of that, if the majority of the people in the league would rather do a snake draft, I will change it to a snake draft. BUT, I would encourage all the auction draft doubters to read up on it, perhaps even do a mock auction draft on Yahoo, and see if your opinion changes. Numi - Will change the settings to 0.5 points per reception (I thought that’s what I set it up as originally).

This message stunk - forget it.

I agree completely – it is obviously more “efficient”… i just have never done it and if im paying $50 to play, not sure i want to learn now… Hence - PIA comment. I like the ‘snake’ draft name. didnt realize it had a name. king_kong Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Ahhh… the old snake draft vs. auction debate. I agree, would rather do a “snake” draft, but can do an auction if that’s what others decide they wanna do. Not that big a deal to me either way, but lemme know within the next few days what the verdict is so I may prepare accordingly. Also agreed on the .5 PPR change; is there .25 points per rushing attempt? Instituted that last year in one of my leagues and I liked it - if a RB gets 25 carries but minimal yards, allows that to be reflected in the scoring. Also, interceptions HAVE to be more (less) than -1, no? -2 Minimum, at least (IMO). Same as fumbles should be. Just my thoughts.

KK - i took your advice and did an auction mock draft. Its much better than the snake. I stand corrected. Much more strategic… However, id hate to have anyone feel that they were disadvantaged by the auction system and recommend we go with the most familiar vs “best”. Its like the CFA way or the highway… right?

I’m currently doing an auction draft and I’m loving it… but because I’ve done 20 ‘snake’ drafts and have never done an ‘auction’ draft I’d prefer the latter if the league is for money.

Snake draft it is. I changed that setting in the league, as well as the 0.5 PPR. skillionarie - interesting idea for the 0.25 PP rushing attempt, but after giving it some thought I must disagree. The reason to reward receptions in a league is because it takes some level of skill to catch a call, whereas just about anyone can take a handoff from quarterback. Having said that, again, I’m not running this league as a dictator, so if other people like this setting I will modify it. Lastly, it seems we have 11 players and need an even amount for the league. Is there anyone else out there interested in joining? EDIT: I also changed interceptions to -1.5 points.

looks good to me - where do we pay?

We are stuck @ 11. So either someone backs out or someone needs to join.

I’m over-committed in NFL pools as it is. If another person wants to join, great. If not, I’ll drop out.

I just sent an invite from fantasysportsvault to everyone in the league to the emails you posted on this thread. Please respond to the email and pay ASAP. I would like to impose a deadline of August 30th at 9pm (24 hours before the draft) for everyone to get their money in. Bankin - Thanks for volunteering to sit out. If you wouldn’t mind, I’d like to use you as a last minute replacement in case someone else doesn’t pay by the deadline.

That’s fine with me so long as either: a. the draft order hasn’t been randomly generated or b. The random draft order has me drafting 1 - 3

The draft order will be randomly determined 30 minutes prior to the draft.

Any chance we could figure it out a little earlier than that? I’m like Andy Reid, I like to script my first few plays (picks). Anyone have an issue with figuring it out as soon as we’ve got ten people paid up?

Paid.
