Any Independent Ibanks left??

What’s you prediction for 3 years from now? Will any Ibanks be able to stay independent and compete with the financing packages that commercial/retail bank owned Ibanks offer? I don’t know the answer, but I thought UBS proved that model didn’t work either. What will be the winning business model?

me think this will change in less than 3 years … good old banking rules = buy (assets) with what you have (deposits) and hey throw in the what you can buy with basel II cap charges 9you want more ris kthen make sure your capital can support it).

Any independent I banks at all or the major? B/c MS and GS don’t look like they’re going to last until Thanksgiving at this rate…

thanksgiving? hmm…howz about this weekend

i think a question would be if the commercial bank/investment bank model would work well going forward! thas what we will see, these big bloated institution who wudnt know their right hand from their left! what do you guys see for the investment banking profession/equity research in the next 5-10 years?

basically a banking ceo in canada said no large i-banks will be left in time. obviously he’s biased but i think he’s right… i’d say we’re down to 2, and not that far from zero.

hmmmm … citibank is an example of all things to all men … and look at them now … although a lot has to do with leadership skills … but can one person get a real grip of a complex business??? I guess there is no model that fits all … and realize one’s own shortcomings … barcap was always a FI house because that was bob diamond’s speciality … now he has lehman … we’ll see how his leadship can now blend and manage the two ships … what is interesting (for me) from all of this is the leadship skills that have been on display …

Despite the government’s reluctance, several major institutions has been bailed out, because they are “too big to fail”. But look at what the solution was: create even BIGGER institutions! Where does this end? Aren’t we just setting even worst disasters down the road? Maybe we need to break things down instead of rolling them up. >>I mean honestly, do you really see synergy in all these M&As? or just simple consolidation of income statement? and layoffs…

Replace “Charlie bit my finger again” with “an Investment bank falls again” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OBlgSz8sSM&feature=related ouch… That hurts

So if there’s only one left, do we hit them with an anti-trust suit?

MS just dominated its earnings… “By this weekend” sounds like someones starting to panic GS and MS will be around forever
