Anyone doing L1 without a degree?

Did you receive an email from CFA recently regarding that issue?

Aren’t you allowed to write L1without a bachelors?

What? I doubled checked with CFAI. I was told all you need is a degree, 4 years of work experience (from anywhere) or a combination of both equaling 4 years to register. Then you register and get accepted into the CFAI if you have 4 years of professional work experience (which involves 50% of the time dealing with investments or investment process). You can get a CFA designation without a degree (it will be hard, but you can!)

To become a CFA charter holder, you need to passed 3 level of exam, have a B.A degree, plus 4 years of related experience. to sit for Level 1, you need to be at least a senior in college and you gotta have your degree by the time you write the level 2 exam

They have not got back to me yet. I will only graduate in the mid 2011 but like some have said, I hold the knowledge that one can sit for Level 1 without degree but can only proceed to Level 2 with a degree.

Movado1108, Everything you said is true. But for those of us who don’t have a Bachelor’s degree, the equivalent of a Bachelor’s degree is 4 years of work experience (in any field) or a combination of 2 years of university and 2 years of work experience is completely acceptable by the CFAI. The other 4 year work experience is to get the charter after you pass all 3 exams. That specific work experience has to deal with 50% of the time in investments. I specifically get worried about this because I wouldn’t be able to get the charter if the what you’re saying is true. I’m doing the CFA without a university degree. I tripled checked with the CFAI.

I think if you have 4 years of experience in relating field, you can sit for the exam. In your case, you must show to the CFAI that you had that experience required before proceeding. You must be honest, since the CFAI does not verify it but they will do it when you pass level 3.

CFAI allowed me to proceed with the exams after I have told them I have already paid and start studying a month ago.
