Then sign up for the military. Easy to feel passionate about the need for somebody else’s involvement.
Anyhow, this always makes me laugh. People from other countries (anti-America Greece in this case) always chastise us when we go hands off, then protest us when we do get involved. Can’t win with the rest of the world. Bunch of ingrates. When the conflict in Libya started, the rebels were all telling news outlets this was a Libyan affair and the US needed to stay out. Then as they began to lose they were quoted saying things like, “Where is the US?” We are not the world’s whipping boy. I say hands off is great. Let 'em burn, fix their own problems. I’d rather have them angry that we stayed home than sacrifice American soldiers just to get insulted for it later.
Violence does not define the argument - it’s about whether the US should use its influence and resources in general to boss other countries around. For instance, if the US wanted to fuck up some country… let’s say Cuba, they can just have a trade embargo. No explicit military action is necessary.
the libyan affair was handled very well, and the people who criticized them for that need to be slapped.
america has been pretty benavolent compared to its predecessors but it still has some neo-imperialistic tendencies when you look at some of the shit they were up to in central/south america.
Buuuuut back on topic this is urban warfare yo . new age-terrorism. can’t fight it. the really nutty islamists must be looking at this and licking their lips
There is some truth to this, but we are not blameless either. We are always making noises about freedom and democracy and how we are the Shining City on the Hill; and condemning this government and that. People can legitimately expect US to put their money (and soldiers) where their mouth is. Example, we made a lot of Anti-Saddam pro-democracy noises back in the 90s, encouraged the rebels, and when they did rise up, refused to give them arms so Saddam slaughtered them.
