I just got back from Jamaica. I loved the snorkeling, Dunn’s River and the fruit. The plantain and pineapple were so good. I opened up the yellow pages and looked up “Investment Banks” to see what was there. I was a curious to look at the profiles of people who worked there. I believe everybody had undergrad at the University of West Indies, and those who had a MBA went to various top 10 schools. I don’t think there are a lot of funds run out of Jamaica, but the use of investment advisers is really being pushed there by advertising. There seems to be a lot of money tied up in partially built houses, so investment sales to the middle class Jamaicans building vacation homes may be hard. There is the JSE for jobs too.
