I ordered them a while ago, and site says will ship in October. Just sticking to CFAI books for now, but slight anxiety that I haven’t received Schweser books yet.

I wonder if they picked 29th of October just so they could advertise that materials “are ready in October” rather than November.
Also really keen to get fresh Schweser notes. I’m studying off old 2010 Schweser at the minute and not sure what’s relevant.

I tried to study Ethics with CFAI, i really learned to appreciate Schweser Notes. Hope they’ll send it punctually.
I would be careful and look at the LOS’ from teh website. I believe a few things changed from 2010 to 2012. Just double check the topic you’re reading didn’t get cut last revision.
I just received an email from Schweser saying my order is ready to ship - a little vague, but hopefully that means they will be in the mail soon.
This is my first post! I failed L II band 2 last year and only used CFAI books. Apparently that wasn’t enough, so I’m willing to put the time into Schweser for extra help and practice.
Has anyone used the FinQuiz question bank?
Just curious Marbellous, but did you actually read the CFAI books in their entirety, and do all EOC’s? I’m not trying to be a wise ass, but I am currently studying out of CFAI books and toying with idea of using them all the way though. I have ordered Schweser, so I will have those as well if needed.
My only concern is that that by using the CFAI books, you waste a lot of time reading material that will not be absrobed that may be better spent doing practice and revision.
Almost everyone I’ve talked to that has their charter used only Schweser for all 3 levels, so hard to rationalize why to use CFAI books.
VaR_99 - I am sure I made the mistake of spending too much time reading the CFAI books and not enough on revision and practice. I did do all of the EOC’s at least once, but ran out of time to go through them a 2nd or 3rd time. My other mistake was only doing 1 mock exam. Bottom line, I just wasn’t prepared last year!
I agree, it seems like there are MANY people that have passed using only Schweser, so I’m changing my strategy this year. I will continue to review the example problems in the blue boxes and do the EOC’s in the CFAI books and use the Schweser notes as primary source of reading. I’m also giving myself at least 2 months of review and mock exam time.
I have a tracking number and my books are slated to be delivered on monday Oct 29th (I am in Montreal Canada).
For Level 1 I studied the ethics in the CFAI books, and everything else with the Schweser notes. I am doing the same for Level 2. The time saved that can be spent doing extra sample exams or reviewing weaker spots are well worth it ! Plus starting with Ethics allows me to start a little earlier than if I was just waiting for the Schweser notes.
That having been said I have a B.Comm in Finance (earned 5 years ago) and I have been working as a mutual fund co inside sales rep ever since (I sell mutual funds to financial advisors not end clients) so I did have a leg-up over others who did not have a finance background for the first exam.

And although I like the ‘ladies’ on the Schweser covers, in a way, I think it’s kind of embarrasing to carry those things around. I remember the Level I ‘Blonde’ hottie, and when I was studying in public, I would flip the books over. They gotta change the cover illustrations to something more bland and banal.
Im not liking the hair, but i can deal with it, if the lights are dimmed.
But I loved the blonde hottie from L1. She was always there to comfort me any time I needed some support. I’d just turn the cover over and she was there smiling, make me understand that everything was going to be ok. There was also a million different fantasies you could imagine about her (she could be the naughty secretary in the office, or the hot portfolio manager, or your hot boss, etc). I definitely miss her.
I’ve been studing with 2010 L2 notes for the last month. The picture really irritates me, it’s exactly who I don’t want to be in life (i.e. the office schmuck who looks like he loves FRA)
The level 1 blonde hottie, When i got frustrated always reminded me that when I pass all 3 exams I will be able to get women like her (?)
The 2012 Level I Blonde Hottie must have moved on to bigger and better gigs after all that exposure. She didn’t come off as b-tchy either, and I noticed she’d sometimes have a ring on, and sometimes she wouldn’t.
It’s weird isn’t it? You wonder why she had a ring on sometimes and sometimes not. What thinking must have gone there (i.e. for Corp Finance we want you to look unmarried, but for Quant you definitely need the ring on).
It just provided extra fantasies to work with (i.e. horny house-wife looking for a fling at work, young unmarried pretty thing looking for a BSD partner, etc).

You’ll probably be fine, unless you live in NYC area. I am in Northeast, and I my books were schedulued for Wednesday delivery. This morning I got an emial from UPS saying they are actually being delievered today, so a day early.
