I can’t figure out why I bombed portfolio mgmt written section so badly, was clearly the reason why i failed… perhaps my answers were far not specific enough? anyone else having this problem? studied Schweser notes from 2007, all practice exams on CFAI website, and had Schweser test bank CD (which was unfortunately useless on the written section!). quite discouraging given that I left exam room thinking it was a walk in the park. i haven’t seen one result above 50 for question 2 - i can’t even remember what it was - but everyone seemed to bomb it - myself included
I had a similar experience to you vandyk30. I used schweser and took the online class. I took the advice of writing short and to the point and I’m not sure where I went wrong. I too left the exam room thinking that it was a walk in the park. yes, i had a good general score but was below 50 on this one
i got under 50 for the first 3, and then over 70 for then 4, and passed. My approach was that the answers to those investment policy statements are so capricious and arbitrary that it was barely worthwhile to study for them. Hopefully just reading them and understanding a few buzzwords can get you 1/3 of the points, maybe a half. THen just smoke the rest of the test. That’s what I did, but I didn’t pass by much (67.4 80/60/40).
I also failed with band 10 and not sure why I did badly on AM Portfolio Mgt section. I did spend lots of time to do this section. As a result, I ran out of time later and had to rush as well as skip some questions at the last 1/3 of the morning section. However, it turned out that I did the poorest on the section that I spent most of effort and time. My friend and I both treated the portfolio mgt essay seriously in the exam preparation. She also scored <50% on three out of the four portfolio mgt essays. We are pretty curious to see the questions and answers for this section. That’s what I did, but I didn’t > pass by much (67.4 80/60/40). i must say. i find your comment “arbitrary and capricious”!. “your fly is open” i couldn’t resist… but i agree 100%. i saved the IPS-individual for last as you’re pretty making up some answer anyway, and you can do that really quickly if necessary.
I scored 4 sections under 50 and they were all PM written (Q2, 9, 10, 11).
I too failed the first 4 questions. I was surprised by this - I only used CFAI texts to prepare, and thought I got at least half the points. I guess my strategy should have been different. Should have focused on all the other questions first, then gone back to these.
