Just curious if anyone has (or knows someone who has) and is willing to confess to it; I logged an insane 622 hours (yes I know it’s comical at this point) for Level III second time around and not sure if I will go certifiably insane if August bears somber news.
I think the result depends on (1) total preparation time, (2) learning method, (3) the focus on the last month and (4) concentration during exam. You got at least one of most important things so you should be relax now. You will get it!
Me, maybe make that 1,500 hours including last year and still don’t think I’ll be passing. CFAI is probably laughing their way to the bank with the money they’ve been getting from me.
Same here, may be close to 1000 hours (clock up more than 100 hours in the last two weeks alone). Still no guarantee to pass, can only hope for the best.
silly to clock hours - gives you a false sense of security. Sit there until you know the concepts inside out, end of story, shut excel down.
Thanks folks for responding and sharing your views.
I didn’t time my study but back of the envelope math tells me I was probably around the 500 hour mark. MUCH more than I studied for L1 or L2. I’m confident I passed.

I felt much more confident this year than last year but still made mistakes in the morning and left two subsections from two questions open. Did you have a similar experience in the morning?
600 ish for the first two levels about half for this level ! Hope it enough
I didn’t count my hours but I’m pretty sure I studied over 500 hours for each level.
+1 here.
What exactly would you be studying for 1,000 hours? The basket weaving section?
I didn’t clock hours but I’m guessing I was between 400-500 this year… In my opinion I don’t think it matters after 500 hours… You pretty much have the same shot as any other prepared candidate. Level 3 is all about keeping calm during the morning exam and being able to show the graders you know the material… I’m definitely not expecting a pass this year btw, to say the least I had problems with the morning section.
Whoa… you guys are hardcore. I probably had like 150 hours for each level.
Ohai, my wife I thought an earlier post of yours on AF the other day was the funniest she and I had read on AF in the past few weeks; perhaps you could respond to this thread with some comic relief.
i would say that i was on the slightly under if 200 were the over/under line. my results will reflect this in august i fear.

That is so cool that you and your wife share a hobby like reading AF…
I studied a lot more for L1 than for L2, since I signed up for L2 in June after I passed L1 in December. Still think I managed alright though.
why do people obsess so much with how many hours they studied… who cares, everyone is going to be different… do you people actually sit there and record the number of hours you studied? what freaks… just study until you know the material
Hmm. I think the number of hours you spend studying can be quite important. I’m not in equity research or some other area that heavily values the CFA charter. So for me, the number of hours that I would need to put in determines whether or not it’s worth it for me to pursue the charter. I would probably not have done it for 500 hours a year.
