Did anyone receive an email from cfa institute asking to apply for membership now? Just wondering why since they didn’t even confirm the result release date yet…

Yes, I have.
I’ve seen random posts about this and based on what I remember, you are encouraged to apply for the membership now since most people will start applying after the results are out which means the processing time will increase. That way, you should receive the charter directly after passing. I don’t believe the wait time will be ridiculous I recall seeing people saying around 7 business days.
The drawback (?) is that in case you do not pass, you’ll have to pay the membership fees for the year.
i was approved last week in like 24 hours and they didn’t actually make me pay (but my membership is inactive until I do)
Thanks for the reply!! Seems like they just want to minimize the numbers of applicants when the result is out, it makes more sense then.

you’re not a cfa charterholder unless you’re a regular member of the CFAI

Received the e-mail too. I became an affiliate member after passing L1, not just to expedite the process after L3 (will still have to wait for req. work exp.) but to join the local society as well. They host some interesting seminars and networking drinks every so often.
Are they sending this email selectively?
I didn’t get one
The e-mail is about the grading process, however they mention the membership part in one of the paragraphs.

I don’t feel great about this exam actually but speculating and looking for clues (and differences) seems to be somewhat fun
It just gives people false hopes…
I got my charter last year. Many people did submit references and join ahead of time. I was pretty confident I would pass. Still, imagine asking for references and then failing. Worse than just failing.
The amount of time it takes to actually get your charter after getting scores and submitting references and other paperwork depends on what local society you join. Los Angeles is slow. Some others are very fast.
Did you pass level III studying with Schweser or did you use the CFAI materials?
Anybody able to apply for the scholarship? I got an error message.

I get the error too. At least it’s not a negative sign even if it’s a sign at all
We just need one person to be able to apply. Then we can start digging the rabbit hole.
You only got that error message because of the following message on their website
“Scholarship applications will be unavailable between 13 August 2018 at 8:00 a.m. ET and 14 August 2018 at 4:00 p.m. ET.”
If you applied before 4pm then you probably got an error.
