I only used the CFA curriculum for Level 1 and I’m contemplating using the schweser books in addition to the curriculum for level 2. Does anyone have any thoughts? My fund only pays for the exam so it would be out of pocket but I know Level 2 is much more difficult. Thanks
IMO - from reading old posts and having used both CFAI and Schweser to pass L1… Seems like 3rd party materials have been getting a bit less useful each year as people have noticed a shift towards testing of concepts (qualitative) vs. direct testing of formulas & etc. (quantitative) on the exam. I haven’t ordered Schweser yet this year so I can’t comment on the new books. I would also assume they have tried to realign their materials with how the test seems to be changing. For what it’s worth - I shoulder the full cost burden of the CFA program and this year I’m still planning to do a 16-week prep program. I’m doing so for three reasons: - make me keep on track with studying - question bank is super helpful even if questions don’t end up testing things the exact way we see them on the test - backup explanation In other words, I’m hoping to actually study in the way the CFAI wants me to… using the CFAI books & problems as a primary source, then my 3rd party (Schewser) as a back-up, reinforcement, and to keep me on track with a study schedule.
Thank you for the insight. I actually used the question bank for level 1 and I found it very helpful as well. I guess I’ll just play it by ear and see how things go. Thanks
not necessary, but much much easier with schweser. just make sure you’re very diligent with taking notes if you go with just CFA schweser is worth it though. pretty sure i could have got the same mark just with schweser, not saying it’s that way every year though
people have passed using only schweser. i am going to go 80% schweser 20% cfai only for ethics and fsa. this is what i did for level 1
I echo SkipE99, I used Schweser for the bulk of my studying for LI except for ethics and a few other things I had a hard time with. I plan on doing the same for LII, big ups to you if you can do just CFAI. I would personally have no motivation to read those beast CFAI books.
