I just clared my CFA level 1 and I am looking at doing my FRM too along with it , wondering if FRM level 1 has any common subjects/topics with CFA level 2 ?
Thinking of doing my frm level 1 in nov 2015 and cfa level 2 in june 2016
New matierial: Intro to finacnial risk management (mostly qualitative), valuation methods, monte carlo simulation.
Derivatives hedging strategies and value at risk stuff is new for L2 but i think it is covered in L3 a little. I have yet to encounter it but beleive it’s in my next book.
I’m probably missing some stuff but thats the big stuff.
looks like a major chunck of it is common . I’ll think about taking FRM next year . and prepare hard for CFA level 2 . As I will be applying for a MSC.Finance program at … some college (not sure where , prolly a college which gives free tution) . but anyways , yea .
well it does time out correctly , but then I dont think ihave the time to sstudy from now as for a few months i have other commitments .
plus there doesnt seem to be any kind of coaching available for cfa level 2 in my city . and neither was it available for cfa leel 1 .
i just dont want to rush in , cause level 2 seems to be of greater challenge . so i guess i want to take out the time to know my enemy first and then prepare accordingly .
Regarding the frm i’ve droped the idea of taking it , if i do , i will take it after my cfa l2 next year .
a couple of them have done that way and i intend to do the same next year .
this year the problem is , I am looking for a mscfinance progam aborad and i am not sure if i will be applying in may or in nov and in which country or university i will be applying in .
hence , this year is going to be kinda stuffed and uncertain regarding the timings .
cause if i get into the nov admission , then my FRM would be screwed . and if i apply in may then i wont have time to study for CFA level 2 , as i will also have to prepare for my gre/gmat and tofel etc …
But thanls for the advice , will be following it next year
