Atheists, what do you think of religious people?

Words having value = your reputation

Do you even know what you are saying?

Such people may well say that.

That doesn’t mean that someone who says that lacks basic thinking skills.

But yours was a nice attempt at a dodge. One of those logical things with which you say that this thread is fraught. Starts with an F.

I don’t care about reputation though.

Igor you need to at least title your links. I don’t know what I’m clicking into.

oh shit

If you raise your kids with religion, they’re likely to be judgmental jerks

So if you don’t care about what you say being meaningful in any significant way, and you don’t care what people think of your reputation and or your posts, why are you posting at all? Occam would say the simplest solution is not to say anything at all.

I’ve been reading this book lately written by Sam Harris (my favorite athiest) and made me think of this thread. Interesting so far for the (what seems like) very few non-God people on the forum.

Bunch of intellectual masturb@tion. Sure it feels good firing back and forth about all this. But it don’t get you any farther.

late to the topic here but I am an atheist and I’m totally cool with religion and those who practice it. If It makes you feel good and does not cause you to impose on anyone else then I have no problem with it at all. I will not get in your face and tell you that your wrong or delusional. There is no point in debating with someone who believes in something based on faith anyway (look up the definition of faith if you don’t believe me).

However, like my boy Neil Degrasse Tyson (http://billmoyers.com/2014/01/16/neil-degrasse-tyson-on-religion-in-science-class/), I have a serious problem with those who try and bring that crap into the science classroom.

^Word!

(Just like in the beginning.)

aetheist or agnostic?

Saw this today and made me think of this thread. The skinny is that in a study on children, those without religious affiliation were more generous than religious children. They also found that non-religious children did not judge others misdeeds or seek to punish perpetrators as often as Muslim and Christian children.

There are articles on forbes, economist, time, christian post, jewish telegraph

but here is the study:

so if the default is that something exists and the burden is to prove its non-existence, then every conceivable belief should have validity until it can be proved to not exist (which we all know is impossible). Congrats S2K, you just relegated Christianity to an equal footing with the likes of Scientology, the Universe People, the Church of Euthanasia, Satanism, Pastafarianism, etc. Every single conceivable arbitrary religious whim is valid until proven otherwise.

so happy to see people starting to recognize that non-existence is invalid unless proved. The future is looking bright, can’t wait to see what happens next. Praise Flying Spaghetti Monster!!

I think you’d like that book above. Sam Harris is one of the few spiritual athiests and it covers meditation type stuff among other things.

I don’t know where you got that.

I certainly never said it, nor do I believe it.

I’m an atheists and hate religion. But i don’t hate the anyone who is brainwashed into beleiving it by their parents.

That brings me to an interesting point:

If God does exisit, why would he let Indian hindu’s be born into a idol worship religion and be forever damned to hell, yet let some American’s be born in the bible belt and be granted a pass to heaven?

Any God that let’s things like that happens sounds like a a-hole to me…and i struggle to understand why you would want to worship that?..

The logic is pretty bad here. Your first question is a little hard to interpret, but as far as I know, entering heaven is not based on which location you inhabited in this world. Your second question is a bit easier to answer as no one worships that. No one worships a God that blocks them from entering heaven because they were in Asia. Why do you hate religion? I’m interested. (Really. Most athiests I have met are kind of lackluster about the subject and don’t really care to believe rather than hating religion in general as you stated)
