bromion, How was the interview process for buyside different than sell-side ? Also, how did you land the interview ? Did you know anyone there or was it a good ol recruiter that you went through ?
The interview process was the same for me except much longer. They didn’t spend any time asking technicals and focused on specific stocks I know about. Then they asked me to evaluate some other stocks I hadn’t looked at based on a stack of papers they gave me. There was no modeling, etc. (we don’t even do that much modeling, to be honest). The interview was a lot more about character and fit than knowledge and experience, but that’s probably fund specific. I just applied for the job without knowing anyone. The recruiters I used were useless (I think they may have actually had negative value since they chewed up some of my time). Also, I don’t have to get up really early since I don’t listen to any of the calls the Street puts out (no value?). I’m usually at my desk by 5:30-6:00. It’s not that bad.
Bromion, Thanks a lot for responding. 5.30 - 6.00 and you are saying that’s not early. What time were you in when you worked on the sell-side ? Was the move to buyside lateral as far as comp was concerned or did you get a jump ? Thanks.
Often before 5 on the sell side. The comp is higher.
I’m assuming you’re on the West Coast Bro?
Yes, SF.

Depends. Early like today would be 6. Usually around 8. Sometimes 12 if we’re working on something timely.
