Being recognized by strangers

I don’t often to go CFA networking events (perhaps twice a year?), but almost everytime I go to a CFA event, someone (or more than 1) would come up to me and tell me they remember me from taking the exams, or from a prior event.

I don’t flatter myself to think i am THAT pretty or that memorable, it is mostly because there are so few of us (females) taking the exams so we stand out in comparison.

A recruiter once told me, most of the time at the agency they only present the candidates they remember on top of their minds, very rarely they go into the database to look for people, unless it’s a job very difficult to fill (either too specific or other candidates they contacted have turned it down). So being recognized and remembered is quite important.

A similar situation happened to my friend who is now working oversea, he says the same thing when he works in foreign cities people recognize him for being well dressed and for his funky outfits (in reality it’s not that funky in Asian standard), at first he would be a little worried being too “loud” and people don’t take him seriously, but the opposite actually happened, he made more contacts and given more job opportunities because people would approach him and talk to him. Obviously he has the smarts to back it up, but he said he otherwise would be drown in the sea of other qualified, professional but appropriately dressed candidates out there.

So, have anyone of you get recognized by strangers (one reason or another), and how do you feel about it?

NANA

At the gym, all the time…

Nana - i often use the line that “I remember” or “i know you” from somewhere as a ice breaker to a girl im attracted to. I’m not saying this is the case but if you see a trend of men asking you this question, chances are they are using it as a line.

At the bar i would say yes, but at these events, i don’t think they are trying to “pick me up”. and they actually can say which exam they saw me in, so i believe them.

In the gym, what do you mean? If you go to same gym with them and they see you all the time, that’s different though.

I believe this was my advice during our last lunch. You’re welcome.

tell them" yes i recognise you too,we were at the exam centre together, and wait u borrowed.some 1000 yens from me that day-u forgot ur wallet(however that is spelt),when do u plan to repay me??" problem solved

hahaha… why would they need money in the test centre though?

No hahaha…

Which brings me to a question i am dying to ask, if a white guy dates an asian, he has a fetish? The same guy can also have dated people of other races though.

Who cares? Just jump on the opportunity to mess with someone!

buying lunch, travelling back home, buying underpants on there way back home-anything

I try not to be a grammar Nazi, but this post caused me actual physical pain.

I will try it next time!

Do you get recognized too? being a girl in this industry/ program??

On a slightly different note…

if they don’t recognize me at the exams, they would come up to me and ask, “is your boyfriend or husband a CFA member?” -_-

So as a female at a CFA event, i am likely to be seen as the date of someone else.

put an exclamation mark after wait, avoid the ‘period’,spellcheck wallet, put a period instead of the comma before ‘when’. remove one of the question marks at the end. avoid any grammatical errors in this post

I was being a narcissist and saying i get recoginzed by strangers for my greatness.

As for pickups, its not limited to the bars but provided they know which exam they saw you in, perhaps you are one of the choosen few females that are attractive (i think i already diagnosed that you were earlier on).

As for fetishes, it’s not a fetish per se for a while male to date a female asian. I run into quite a few asian girls that i would mess around with

Solid advice, it has yet to let me down. I follow it up with “i hope this isnt too forward but would you like to…” and viola, it’s a date. To be honest though, I was using that before i met you.

I’ve been to Africa, been to Mexico, and been to Russia. Can’t say that I’ve ever been to Asia.

Anybody what to share their Asian experience?

(My favorite was the trip to Russia. Only lasted six months, but it was a really good six months.)

This is gr8t (however that is spelt)

Like i said, there are 95% males at the test centres (5% includes the older female proctors), so i can understand why people would stare at me and take notice.

Though i am not completely unattractive as well

Where did you get married?

When I took the CFA exams, the population was quite diverse. The M:F ratio was of course not 50:50, but certainly more than 1/20 of the candidates were female. One person was a woman who looked 8 months pregnant. The most confusing person was a 70-year-old Indian lady in a sari. Also, we used shared desks and for one exam, the Asian girl next to me kept erasing answers and shaking the table. I probably would have tried to chat her up if not for the no talking rule.
