Beneish Model : M-score : it says that a higher SGAI indicates that management can take advantage to manipulate earnings (ok- makes sense - by reporting higher salaries) BUT, the formula that they’ve suggested i.e (M-score) has a negative coefficient (-0.172). which ultimately “reduces” M-score and ensures that there’s less probability of manipulation in earnings- is that correct or i am misstating it ? Also, the same applies to LEVI as well ! Don’t you think coeff should be a positive for both ?
