Can any body suggest best book or a movie (I have seen inside job and too big to fail) on recent fianancial crisis?
HBO’s Too Big To Fail was decent, but the book is much much better. The movie hardly even touches on AIG and certainly does not spotlight Paulson as much. The Greatest Trade Ever The Big Short Too Big To Fail
Another book that doesn’t get as much press about an industry that was very responsible for the financial crisis is “Confidence Game” by Christine Richard. She write for Bloomberg and the book is about Bill Ackman’s crusade against the bond insurers most notably MBIA. It was a very good read. I also had no idea going into the book how big the bond insurance industry was and that MBIA at their peak was one of the 10 largest financial institutions in America.
Covers more than the most recent crisis but Bailout Nation is fantastic.
I really liked ‘Diary of a Very Bad Year.’ ‘The Big Short’ was very good as well.
The Big Short is entertaining, but so ridiculously biased. History is never objectively written until well after the fact, though.
Too Big to Fail was outstanding I thought. The Quants was ok…kind of dry at some points.
Anyone read ‘In Fed We Trust’?
thank u all for your responses.
How Markets Fail, by John Cassidy, who writes for the New Yorker. More of an economics perspective.
Lewis - “The Big Short” was great
Too Big To Fail i thought was great. The Big Short was fine, but it seemed more of a Hollywood type book that dramatized some stuff… I also can’t stand at times how Lewis thinks he is God and predicted all of this all along… I also read The Sellout, which I thought was decent, but not as good as TBTF.
Sort of related, but does anyone know good books on Bernie Madoff? I’m sure there’s tons in the market right now, and I don’t want to waste my time on a mediocre one.
No one would listen by Harry Markopolos

Financial Crisis Inquiry report http://www.gpoaccess.gov/fcic/fcic.pdf Probably the most well researched ~600 pages on the crisis itself. -Also if you haven’t seen the Bernie Madoff PBS doc, you should check it out: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/madoff/view/ There’s also a bunch of videos on the PBS site about the crisis too.
