Ah! I knew I forgot one, Band of Brothers was a great show, too bad it was only 1 season. Tried watching The Pacific afterwards and quit during the first 10 mins…
I’ve seen both, shows were not as good back then, designed for the audience. It is a scientific fact that humans have gotten taller over time and studies indicate height is positively correlated with IQ. Which is why we have computers now… and better shows.
but even so, if you are sampling from two identical distributions one of which has larger mean, and then comparing the maximum order statistics (the largest elements in the two corresponding sample sets), then it’s a lot more likely that the larger element would come from the set sampled from the distribution with larger mean. And it’s even more likely when the sample size of the set from the distribution with larger mean is also bigger. One can work out the exact probability for a given distribution but it’s pretty intuitive:
the average human height has increased say, between 1950’s to 2000’s
the human population has increased
=> the tallest person from a random sample of people in the 2000’s would most likely be taller than the tallest person from a random sample of people in the 1950’s
Same with TV shows - if we make more TV shows today than in the past, and the average quality of TV shows has increased over time, it is highly likely that the best show of all time is a current one. QED, The Wire and The Office (British version with David Brent).
its a voting system. granted you have to be online to vote so there are shortcoming. which is why i like to watch the most viewed shows, just so i can relate to people if need be.
