Biggest mistake I made in my life!

Hey Guys, I just wanted your feedback about this. I am actually doing my master this year in finance, however I also enrolled in CFA LII exam. Although I tried to put some effort in studying for the exam, I didn’t have enough time to do all EOC questions or even practise testbank questions and even now we are 4 days from the exam I didn’t have time to do 1 mock exam and I’m still reviewing some chapters. This is so frustrating, I think I shouldn’t have taken the LII while studying at Uni. My master is for 2 years, and now I realize I have not been able to enjoy uni life, like doing extra curricular activities or even working part time because of time constraint for my studies, especially due to CFA LII. When I think about that, I’m so angry with myself because I have to fully accept that I’m gonna fail this exam & that I had lost 1year of my uni life doing nothing but except studying. I came to realize that to secure a job in finance industry, it’s not only about getting good grades but also being a well rounded person. Anyway, I am going to sit for the exam because I have nothing to lose but after that I am going to take a break for the CFA exam, until I finish my degree. So I think I will be sitting for LII in 2013, such a long time to wait. Do you think guys am I right for waiting till the end of my studies? I know most of u are working so this is completely different from my situation. All the best to all of u who are sitting for the exam.

I suggest you rent the movie Falling Down, starring Michael Douglas.

Write again in 2012 after you have a) reviewed SOME of the material in prep for the 2011 exam b) had the ability to see the June Level 2 exam and c) have a full 12 months to review for June 2012. You can review core material like Ethics, FRA & Equity BEFORE you can even get the 2012 books in September. That means the entire summer you can smash those 3 topics. Do them 1 month at a time and ensure complete mastery. Then come Sept when you get your 2012 books all you have to do is clean up the rest and review. You will be well ahead of the game doing it this way. If you wait until 2013 - you are starting over.

If you’ve been studying for the past year how have you not done all EOC ?'s or mock??

I’ve been putting much more emphasis on uni I mean. I had tons of assignment.

why bother getting a CFA if you are working on a masters in finance… what is the point? you plan on trying to teach or something?

Thanks for the taking the bullet, I mean test. The MPS appreciates it. Dude, don’t worry about it. Life gets in the way. 99% of the candidate population underestimates the ridiculousness of L2. Your school work is much more important than the CFA right now. But definitely show up for the exam.

Not planning to teach but I think passing the CFA exam is a definite plus for my career because I want to work as an equity research analyst.

I would recommend doing it while you’re still in school. I took both of my tests while doing my MBA and the exposure you get to the material in the classroom is really helpful. It’s hard to put in the time to study for it, but you just have to try and also hope that you get a little bit of luck on your side. I’m 1 year out of school now and taking Level II and I imagine it will only get harder since I’m not exposed to the material in the classroom on a daily basis. Good luck!

I recommend you take the test anyway to get a feel for it

most over the top title of a thread i’ve seen on this forum. relax and move on…

What mistake? Just take the test. You fail or pass. Life is more than this test.

If taking CFA level 2 under-prepared is the biggest mistake of your life, well you’ve been living a pretty safe life lol you mentioned the program is 2 years…take the second year then to enjoy the ‘uni’ life, network, and extra-curricular activities…or prepare for level 2 throughou the year slowly while doing the program and come June 2012 you will feel much more prepared…Either way, don’t stress out…it’s only an exam

+1 on dramatic thread title. I was expecting to see a crank addiction stemming from studying too much - hah. And yes, definitely don’t worry - this is really valuable material if you want to work in asset management or equity research in any stage, so the value is not void if you don’t pass. Remember that out of every 100 enrolled a year, 7-12 will get the charter in 5 years or less. You are doing something worthwhile in the meantime, not like you spent all year snowboarding and surfing. Take the test and plan accordingly for next year - hell you never know.
